Advertising website on your vehicle

I have noticed many cars with web addresses on the rear window, etc. Has anyone found this to be an effective strategy? While I think it's good practice to put your url out there as much as you can, I'm not sure that an URL on a car is going to be effective in driving any traffic.

Probably be a lot more effective than NOT putting one on there?

I put one on a vehicle recently and tracked results. Admittedly it
was a big rear window cartoon and message...it got very cost effective
    results.

I doubt that just a URL would get the same result...but an eye catching
    cartoon does.

This is kind of right up there with putting your company logo and URL on a shirt and running in the park every day wearing that shirt.

Sure the question of targeting comes into play... but the truth is, you simply do not know who is going to see your message at that "Tipping Point" in their buy process.

The question then becomes; Why would you NOT do this?

No one ever questions a plumber or an electrician blanket mailing a post card to 10,000 folks. Seems to me it is the exact same principle at play. Having your message seen at that moment your service is needed.

I personally have a "Vinyl" business. This part of my company basically decals vehicles as a source of income. I focus on other aspects other than vehicles btw, but vehicles is a big part of my business. The #1 thing you have to remember... If its not easy to read, you wasted your money.

I seriously do not know how often my art department has to direct customers towards a more readable design.. but I would venture to say its in the 75% of the time category. When in doubt print it out. Print it on paper to the size you are going to be placing it on the vehicle, and tape it on there and get some opinions.

      My thoughts exactly!
However, it also depends on what you advertise.
Some businesses will get more attention than others.

Services - plumbing, pests, air cond, etc may do well

if you have a mobile service - mobile locksmith, pest grooming, come to your house computer repair....vehicle signs/magnets are a must

I know a guy who fixes car windows, window motors...he does very well with this

however - the mlm stuff - "noni juice"...."get rich with me" blah blah - well good luck with that
I always get a laugh when I see some older car in not great shape with a window decal bragging how much money you will make with their "plan" LOL

Thanks for the input. Yes, I am of the opinion "why not"? also. I just wanted to know how effective you thought it was. And I agree that the MLM ads are a waste! Also agree that putting your url on a crappy vehicle may not be a good idea.

        Interesting,

As we have all learned over the years in marketing, there is no guarantee to success of your promotional efforts. You have to evaluate your niche product before you will see a cost effective return on your marketing investment.

Having evaluated every single strategy known to the advertising and promotions industry, I can't say what worked best as I promote several businesses, and what works best for one does not mean it will work for another. It is all about choosing which medium works best for a specific product category.

No doubt advertising on vehicles is cost effective for a magnetic sign, bumper sticker or window sticker can produce results, but only if your domain name can define your business, not easy. I use to be in the advertising auto wrap business when Yahoo first used concept and it was very successful, I am sure everyone saw a Yahoo vehicle at special events around the country. Of course, nothing needed to be said other than YAHOOOOOOOO. lol

Like all advertising mediums, what worked yesterday does not mean it will work today, never mind tomorrow, but Mobile Media Marketing does work well, especially when you target events for maximum exposure. A URL in the rear window is useless in most cases as peoples attention span is limited while driving. I use Mobile LED Signs in my rear window and I know they work because most people are lip readers and I can see them reading my messages. And I get results, so here is an example where you can promote your business in a more specific manner to generate interest. I can change my LED signs message as many times as needed depending on what I am promoting.

My main message is promoting FREE-BUSINESSES.com which enables me to capture the interest of anyone looking for a free or low cost home business which I promote several, so this was the ideal advertising medium as I get business wherever I Park and Drive, so my message is simple, Get Paid To Park & Drive, and then I scroll my website URL and bingo, every day I get a few more customers. It has worked so well I was considering starting a new business. DRIVEFREESIGNS.com where I promote the concept. Been playing with this idea for years, and who doesn't want cost effective advertising.

Now that I have launched a new ceramic nanotechnology protective coatings product line for autocare, windshield protection, auto finish, alloy wheels, leather interior, waterproofing carpets and seats, so what better way to promote this new auto related product line than on my super clean spotless vehicle where it no longer gets dirty from road grime, salt or mud, it just slides down whenever it rains or I hose it down, no more detergents or traditional washing, so this appears to be the perfect medium to promote my new car care line of waterproofing coatings, what do you think? Mobile LED Signs work and I have been using them for over a decade.

        Success to all,

    Car...driving...traffic...

I could see it working for a local business. Besides that, I doubt it does much.

Your right... it does so little for UPS that has 100% of their vehicles tagged.. including AIRPLANES. It does so little Fed-Ex.. they do the same.

Think about this... Progressive insurance... Vehicles Tagged. Mary Kay. tagged and PINK. United airlines.. ALL planes TAGGED. Wonder Bread, WALMART, USPS, Hostess, Keebler, COKE, PEPSI, Budweiser this list could go on F O R E V E R.

There is so much money spent on vehicle tagging at the corporate level.. it seriously makes you wonder why more of the small business community doesn't follow suite.

I drive a tagged vehicle. My wife drives a tagged vehicle. My employees drive a tagged vehicle. in fact my employees PERSONAL cars at their request are tagged. On any given day my little 10 man operation there are almost 30 vehicles running around. and couple that with the fact I live in a community en mass that is only 40,000 ( +/- ) in population.. those are BIG numbers

Well I would say that when there is no problem during driving and the advertisement is not violating the traffic rules, then I too think that to be a good way of marketing.

What I understand from marketing that promoting your product or services in all possible ways. So, writing on windows is one of the best way I believe because that adds up the value for brand marketing. Same time the visitors count may go high.
