One office covers several local cities

OFFLINE MARKETING

I have one physical location or office and my services covers many neighboring cities and towns. What's the best way to cover these other towns for local seo?

Individual pages for each service + city. Typically a 300-500 word article, proper headings, images, etc... You're not going to rank in the map pack most likely so you have to go organic.

I have clients ranking in the pack 35 miles away from their office. Weak competition generally though.

Check this out: [Tutorial] How I Ranked a Client’s Site in 20+ cities for 60+ Keywords WITH DUPLICATE CONTENT!

This will give you an overview of optimization you should do for your city specific landing pages. I've been able to do it with a lot of duplicate content, but obviously original, unique content would be even better.

How weak is weak? In the contractor area I've never seen anything like that. Although I could see it maybe for niche-specific stuff.

I actually read that article a couple weeks ago. Good stuff. I'm basing a lot of my package around that idea now - multiple service + city keyword rankings. I'm not using dupe content across the board though - just for smaller towns surrounding the larger cities. In about two months I'll have a good bit of data to look at and see what's really working.

Contractor related... when I say weak competition I mean, people handling their own SEO or some cheap person on CL that doesn't know what they're doing.

Hmmm... I may need to focus more on citations and links.

For most cities around me, they're dominated by one or two big players with a pretty solid web presence. But even the biggest player (I can PM you more details if you're just interested in looking around) isn't ranking in maps outside of their main city. Again this is for businesses with one location.
