Digital Marketing Job Offer

Just turned down a job offer to be a Digital Marketing Manager for $90K a year plus bonuses, I just don't think I could be a 9-5 employee....LOL....‪#‎entrepreneurforlife‬ ‪#‎laptoplifestyle‬ ‪#‎unemployable‬

Would you accept that offer? Here is what the position entailed.

"We are looking for a Direct Hire Marketing Manager, to develop marketing and ad campaigns. The position will also entail overseeing PR and Social Media - Develop content and continue to develop brand recognition."

      You can't sell a job like a business.

      A business creates short term cashflow and a long term asset

      Ha...that's funny Bob, it was some Headhunter that saw my LinkedIn Profile. I told them, I would charge 1/2 of that to consult their current marketing department.....

    Wow... you would just turn it down without pitching them your own services and showing them how much more benefit it would be to use you instead of hiring someone on as an employee? Those make for some really solid leads.

      I was only talking to Headhunter, she wouldn't give me name of the company. I did suggest that I could consult their marketing department. She said she has a few more companies that might be in need of my services.

    so....how is your plug in sales for restaurants going on facebook?? Personally I would take a 90k a year job over trying to sell that but that is just me

      True that... Add restaurants to my list of least favorite businesses to target. Still not as bad as real estate agents but close. LOL.

        I am actually cool with Restaurants, I got chain of 16 Steakhouses, charging them $4K a month....I prefer funded start up companies.

    Heck, in California 90k/yr is poverty wages. In the Bay Area the after tax income on that 90k won't get you a 1 bedroom apartment, forget buying groceries and gas.

    Somehow, I can visualize you laughing heartily at the very thought of even considering this offer.

      I have a client in orange county that was telling me not too long ago how he only profited 150k last year for himself after taxes and expenses. Even at that amount he was going on about how he can't afford much of anything and how stressed out he is all the time.

      Crazy... in most of the midwest and south you can get by...and thrive at 50k/year.

        I can relate to the stress of higher income.

        No sooner than you've earned the money your other half has bought something new or you've upsized your boat or some other toy.

        For my parents it's a different story.

        Both professionals. lecturers on set salaries but they both always did some private tuition outside of their regular employment.

        Their generation born in the 30s and 40s always saved and managed modestly with what after tax dollars they had.

        They invested in property, managed funds, cash in the bank, art, shares and educating their children.

        NOTE - they never reacted and sold out during a crisis

        Now they don't really have financial stress. [yes they have cash-flow management issues]

        They still have a saving mindset even though they approach the end of their years.

        I think it doesn't matter how much you earn but it does matter how much you keep.

        If you have a business you can spend pre-tax dollars on so many things to enhance your life and it is really necessary to take advantage of those benefits if you can.

        My company structure gives me the vehicle to distribute wealth to my spouse and kids and to minimise my taxable income.

        Of course I bitch about how little I have but really??

    If you believe you will have not become happy in this job or if it doesn't hit your life's purpose, good job on saying no.

    If there is the slightest doubt in you if you should have taken the offer, you need to contemplate.

      I cringe thinking about a 9-5 job.....I consulted a boutique agency from 2010-2012, I worked 11am-3pm and everyone else was 9-5pm. I could do that again if the right price came along. :-)
