Best Place for Postcards - Help !!!

Hi,

I need to send out 1,000 or so post cards to selected local targets. Thus, EDDM doesn't work for me and my shipping costs will be high, thus I like to save as much as I can on the postcards.

What is the best place to buy these post cards? I know for a fact that there is a huge difference in price and quality at each vendor.

How good is Vistaprint? etc.. or should I got with at local print shop?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

I personally use gotprint.com 1000 4x6 is about $60 with shipping color both sides. With Vista print, you are over $100 before shipping to get the same thing.

are you trying to have someone send them out for you in bulk or just print and ship you the cards? savidge pointed you in the right direction to use gotprint if you're looking for someone to just print and ship them to you, they're just about as cheap as it gets.

I would prefer that they would send me the cards, so that I can do it myself. This will be my first time sending out postcards. So that I wish to get the hands on experience, and maybe get them to do it in the future.

Also, I don't know, even in the future I think I'll just do it myself since I don't really want to give them my list. Will there be a price difference in doing it by myself over them shipping it out? and what would you recommend?

One thing to keep in mind if you are doing this yourself is to ensure that the backside or the address side is NOT coated. I generally will run smaller amounts through my printer myself. 1000 would take 5 hours or so depending on your printer.

That's a great point... you definitely don't want to get them with UV coating on the addressed side. I don't believe that gotprint offers them without UV on both sides, so you'd likely have to get the 16pt matte option.

If your printer offers AQ (aqueous) coating, you can still have a glossy finish and it will write on fine; just not UV gloss.

    Regarding mailing:

if you do the mailing yourself you'll be limited to using stamps and hand writing everything. That's fine for something in the quantities of 200 or less but after that it starts to get really tedious and time consuming.

By using a mailhouse, you'll be able to get lower postage rates using presort first class or standard class mail. The downside is that you won't be able to hand address or show a first class stamp; however if you want to mail large quantities you need to use one.

I third GotPrint if you're looking for great prices and nice quality. I've never used them for postcards but they printed my business cards and did a good job.

I've used VistaPrint for tri-folds and wasn't happy with the quality (they even said they'd re-print them, but got the second batch and they we're just as bad as the first). I also got a gift t-shirt from a friend, and he said he got it from VistaPrint and the quality of the printing on the shirt was good. So, I guess it depends what you're printing w/ VP.

Also, I like using my local printer, Berea Printing. They have the best quality and customer service, but you're going to pay a little more, which is worth it to me.

I use Bob Ross for everything. The relationship, help and advice is valuable enough that price shopping is not in order. It's just a perk that his prices are very fair.

You might also want to check out:

    My1Stop.com Postcard Printing | My1Stop

1,000 full color front, blank back, for under $55.

My better half uses My1Stop for all of her business cards (two distinct businesses). I've worked with them before and the are a great, honest, responsive team. Basically a printing company that does a lot of volume but still runs things like a small hometown business (in a good way).
