The End of Cold Calling in the UK?

It looks like life is going to get harder for marketers in the UK - thanks to scammers tarring everyone with the same brush.

    Well it'll probably be only a matter of time until this spreads to other countries like the U.S. But I can imagine it'll take quite some time, plus I'm sure there'll be loopholes to combat the laws.

    I didn't see anything that would warrant the claim for the end of cold calling. Is there more to it than what is listed in the story?
    He said it was "important to recognise" the UK has a "legitimate direct marketing industry... where businesses calling consumers can sometimes bring some benefit" and the ICO "wants after the cowboys".
    Looks like it really isn't going to end it for most. Seems like maybe the auto dialers will die out if they go above a legal threshold.

      That's exactly who they're after. The onshore douchebags running call centres in contravention of the regulations will have to change their modus operandi.


      However, the offshore douchebags will still operate as normal...

    Let's stop the robo calls please, lol. I'm so tired of getting robo calls telling me they can increase my google listing with seo.

    This is nothing new - US has rules and regulations

    the robo callers are the worst - ugh

    I also don't speak to anyone with an accent or who is not in my area code period

    Xenophobic? No just realistic

    However....there are so many threads on here about "outsource calls" and get a "VA" to make calls....how to get call lists, get automated call robots, blah blah
    How do I get an automated caller? How can I get a list of numbers to call or text? blah blah blah


    I sometimes feel as if this is a cess pool of desperate people who want to charge others huge sums
    ($500 a month to "manage" a yelp page) while enslaving other people

    Sell a website for $1000, get some guy in India to make it for $75 hahahaha

    Pay people in the Philipines to cold call for $3 an hour

    Jesus some of these people make Andrew Carnegie and Rockafeller look like angels haha

      I feel it should be common sense that you wouldn't hire foreigners to cold call here in the U.S. ever. Unless of course it's all part of your strategy? Get qualified leads then have foreign cold callers hound them for weeks non-stop so you can come to the rescue being the slick salesman that you are! (EDIT) - This is a joke by the way.

      It seems everyone wants to charge a lot for their service and then do a half assed job. If you're asking for $1000 or more in the first year of doing business with them, you better be prepared to give some massive, massive value.

    There are a lot of issues here that need ironing out and the general public need education.

    Within the UK you actually don't get many cold calls the vast majority of data is bought. Members of the public don't know/understand that when forms say they may share data it essentially means we going to pimp you out.

    Even if you are aware try getting an insurance quote without giving permission.

    Do you remember that you've given permission when the phone rings 6 months later? So these calls are except.

    Also exempt are calls from abroad (even if the company they are calling on behalf is UK based).

    'Government' calls, you important ones like grants for solar panels and loft installation are exempt.

    As are surveys

    This is just white noise in an election year that won't change anything.

    Here's a thing call the TPS and you will likely go through to a multi contract out sourcing centre where the same company phone you to sell gas and electricity, post code lottery and BT sport
