HELP - How to Select A Local Niche

I want to concentrate on one profitable local niche, but I'm having a problem the right ones to identify. I know that there is a formula for selecting local niches - what is it?

    There's no formula.

What do you mean by local niche? You are doing local advertising sales? You want to work with people locally? Depending on what you do local itself can be a niche.

        Interesting question.....

What offline service are you offering>

Sometimes if you are providing marketing service to a biz they will not want you to provide the same to their competitors. Some services - like the 9x12 - would be hard to target to the same sort of biz>?

        • The main service I'd like to offer is lead gen. Of course, once they become a client I can offer other IM services, but lead gen will be my main offering.

    • I'd start the idea process with yourself...

In a past life were you in a business that's local? Or did you go to college for something that relates to local? Or do you have a passion for something that translates to a local industry?

If you used to be a landscaper for instance then that gives you some confidence and knowledge in talking to folks in that industry.

When I picked my local niche years ago I picked Dental because I used to be in the Dental industry in a previous life, so I knew the lingo and the problems Dentists face in trying to grow their practice.

Or course if you don't have an background or interest in a local industry or the only one you can think of that's a fit would not be profitable, it's back to the drawing board. But starting with something you know and are passionate about, if it would be profitable is a good place to start.

2 industries I have often thought about recommending to all the local search consultants I do training for are solar and home security.

      Why???

They aren't as saturated with local search consultants as the usual suspects like Dentists, plumbers and attorneys. Yet I think have fairly high tickets services/products. And I know in the affiliate space home security used to pay unusually high commish so I assume they have money for marketing.

      So just a couple ideas...

Just go out there and do it until something hits. I believe Nameless also has a list of 64 untapped niches to target on his site.
