So I've been approached by a guy that has 400,000 vanity 800 numbers, some are pretty sweet and of obvious value, while others are more run of the mill. I would go nowhere else for answers. There isn't a ton of google searches for it, it looks like 50,000 a month or something, but what do you guys think, is there a good market in your opinion? I'm looking at doing a voice broadcast to sell the less valuable numbers on inbound and focusing our sales time on prospecting and selling the more valuable ones.

First of all 50,000 a month would be a kick ton of traffic flow for a singular niche target like that. The term "vanity 800 numbers" in terms of site completion is mid low unlike "vanity 800 #" which is mid to high site competitive. With the right type of SEO ad a solid base of content behind it, you could have a site ranking well for the first term in weeks if not less.

I personally would have all the numbers on a site for sale and broken down by categories or something. Doctors, lawyers, plumbers, cars, etc. You have to think that you consider "run of the mill" is going to be someone elses OMG moment. So I would not discount or lesson your efforts on some vs others.

Again me personally, I would go with 100% inbound with this to start. and see where that gets you. you can do some really cool stuff with Facebook target advertising, as well as with Twitter and LinkedIn.

Sounds like a really cool project actually!

    Good Luck!

With smart phones who dials numbers anyhow? I search and hit that little phone icon

I don't like vanity numbers anyhow, they are pain to dial , if I must dial I prefer digits

if a vanity 800, 866, 877, etc number doesn't have the numbers after it I am gone. Just don't have time to hunt and peck numbers.

When I get some free time I'll call these thousands of businesses and tell them to stop advertising since everybody's just looking it up on their phone now! lol

Great personal perspectives however vanity numbers have a 60% higher call rate on ads which means something to business owners even if it means nothing to you personally!

Actually its a win win, for the ones just searching on there phones most likely you will find the same business with the vanity number. And for the ones that are thinking of looking for a plumber and really dont know any, but seen a billboard or commercial for 1800 Plumber will probably give it a try.

Ive also heard of people renting the numbers out and or using the number to sell leads ect

    .
If you're advertising on the radio, an easy to remember 800 vanity number is _mandatory_ . You can't remember the announced number and have no way to write it down if you're driving.
