Looking for theme or script for local mini directory site

I'm looking to set up hyper focused mini directory sites. One local area + one type of service per site. Less than 50 listings. But all the directory themes I look at seem to be designed as mega directories, offering everything to everybody, everywhere. Should I get a theme that's overkill and try to scale it down, or are there other appropriate options?

    If you are just making mini sites and they aren't going to be monstrous, why do you need a "Directory Script"? Just make a regular site with a search function. Why is it necessary for it to be a "directory" script specifically? Any site can be made into a directory, especially if you don't intend for it to be huge. Food for thought. "Keep it simple" is a great rule of thumb.

    I would like to include some functionality that normally comes integrated with a directory site, like claiming a listing, user reviews, descriptive fields. I know I could probably put all this together piecemeal, but I am lazy

    I don't see why you couldn't use say GeoDirectory or the like. If you are developing 50 separate categories or 1 the software will only do what you tell it to. I wouldn't think of it as over kill at all.

      I think you may be better off using a plugin for this mini directory site.

      One directory plugin I can highly recommend is Connections.

      It's free in the Wordpress Plugin repositry, although there are paid add-ons as well.

      I've tried pretty much all the directory themes and plugings and IMHO Connections is the best one.
