Scam Alert! (don't do business this way)...
My cell phone rings. Says call is from Arkansas.
I pick up. Very official sounding recording seems to say (more on "seems to say" later) that is is an automated call FROM GOOGLE about my "My Business" google page. About how they have tried to reach me several times, and it has to do with the process of claiming my google page (my local biz google plus page) -- which I AM in the process of creating/editing, etc.
Now, about the "seems to say." I also do copywriting, so I am VERY aware (+ steer clear of) deceptive/misleading "WEASEL WORDS." I do not remember the ACTUAL wording of this recording -- but it seemed to PASS all my mental "weasel words" tests. If it didn't actually OUTRIGHT SAY it was (the real) google calling, it sure did an "excellent" job of saying it in an "irrefutable" way.
So, basically I fell for that part of the call.
I press 1 + wait for what I am told will be 2 minutes. AS I'M WAITING my doubt that it is actually google calling GROWS to the point that when the "operator" picks up, and he asks me if I really am the biz owner, and I say yes, I then say to him... "THIS IS GOOGLE CALLING, RIIIIIIIIGHT?!?!?!"
Which has the effect of IMMEDIATELY PIERCING DIRECTLY TO THE HEART OF THE DECEPTION.
His answer? ---- (((click --- he hangs up)))
So, (and he's where the scam covers it own tracks/ass) I CALL THE NUMBER BACK. And when I do, I get another recording which says (only) "WE HAVE NOW ADDED YOUR NUMBER TO OUR DO NOT CALL LIST."
---- (((click --- it hangs up)))
Slick system? Yes.
Bordering on (if not crossing the border of) FRAUD -- yes.
Don't do business this way, no matter what the money numbers (ROI) promise you!
