Are traditional job titles dead?

so I'm working on the branding and logo campaign for my small business, and I'm looking around at other young entrepreneurs business cards and business branding and I am noticing a trend away from traditional job titles...

so what one of my company does is basically review business telephone and internet bills to see if there are places we can cut costs and lower the overall spend, but the title of president or managing partner does not come across as young, dynamic and entrepreneurial. I'm noticing a lot of my peers using catchy title such as wizard, guru, chief cook and bottle washer, and other names like this.... my question is should a title on a business card convey formality and professionalism, or should some humor be woven in? Or, am I just reading too far into it

I wouldn't worry about it. Calling yourself a wizard or guru or my favorite, diva, will just cause people to roll their eyes.

Agree with above. I'd never put that on a business card. They are trying to be like FB but they obviously aren't. You've got to be very successful before you start putting stuff like that on a card you give to others.

I do cards both ways.. and by both ways I mean with a title "Owner" and the other blank just like everyone else in my business. I hand out the blank ones unless I am at a trade show or the like. Customers.. get the blank one.

I have found over the years that the more you speak in "we" and less in "I" and don't hand them a card that says "owner", the initial price negotiations go a lot easier. You are just the sales guy with no authority.. the price is what the price is.

The moment you can mentally take yourself out of that "I am the owner and I need to close this deal.. ok ok ok I will do it for half price." and get into setting a price and sticking with it.. the sooner you will see success.
