I freaking hate cold calling

So i suck at cold calling i have a database of former business owners. I call a lot of them but i just get nervous. I have a script I'm just about to rip apart.

I'm trying to generate an extra $2000 by August 1st 2015 and I've tried everything else.

I have already cold called 100 people today. And i'm just lost on what to say I'm trying to see if their business options were still open.

or see if they would be open to a side project. but i just hate calling people up and asking them stuff. but i need to generate income soon.

Any advice?

Btw i have a disability and get very nervous and shaky it's not my fault on the disability part but i just wonder if that is the reason i suck at it.

and yes i do some advertising as well which can get people to my website but no one is buying.

My advice - first stop saying negative things about yourself. It builds poor self esteem, poor confidence and bad karma.

Second - stop cold calling, it is a waste of your time. I think you are finding that out. Check out this page - STOP Cold Calling! It may make you feel better and give you some ideas.

I would also suggest you alter your business model so it does not include cold calling. I expect that in the long run something like email marketing may prove to be much better. There is a ton of information on this forum about email marketing so hopefully you will be able to get such a system to work for you. Best of luck to you!

    1. Don't call with the intent to see if there's an opportunity for you. Call with the solution to the common problems common with them.

    2. Don't call 100 numbers. Call until 10am. Then call until 2pm. Then call until 5pm. As you become efficient with the calls your total counts should rise...or not! Depends on the conversations --- I'd rather have 10 solid conversations than 100 quick rejection calls.

Well that's for you to figure out.

I suppose if i had some whizbang accounting software for sale that immediately sends a text to delinquent accounts , my first words to them might be, "I've been working with business "x" to reduce collections of delinquent accounts by 50%..."

....or something like that. Point is: its about solving a problem, not about giving me work.

Hi....are you still doing MLM? that might be part of the problem

Make sure what you are offering really is of value. Something that biz will really need./want.

If you really hate cold calling don't do it JMO. Honestly from what I have seen you try to offer it is about mlm...and most biz owners are going to tell you NO...NO NO

most real biz owners are not going to get involved in trying to sell to others as a multilevel

    Harsh? No just realistic

I still wonder why your so called "sponsors" in your MLM's don't offer you support?

I absolutely, can NOT stand MLM and I don't understand how so many people are pushing the MLM BS.

I agree that is maybe the problem if you're cold calling, while offering MLM, but that still doesn't help the shakiness and lack of confidence.

I also agree with freebiequeen that if you really don't like it, don't do it.

What skills do you have? There's a lot of ways to make an extra 2 grand. You just have to see the opportunity around you!

Hell, you could write articles and make 2 grand by August 1st.

Everybody can dial and do a cold-call. But can you close the deal?

Telemarketing is not for everybody You must have talent! It can be learned and you can become good but takes time and desire to do so.

Some in this forum say that it is easy. But it is not easy, you must be determined and go after the deal. Take no prisoners attitude! That's all she wrote!

Try other methods mentioned in this thread.

It seems freebiequeen and nameless don't like mlm programs. Me too but I'm willing to try an experiment. We build a mlm company and sell wso's. God knows we have enough of them. Not only would this make us a quick buck (oops didn't mean mlms were quick buck artists) but we'd have a guaranteed built in downline.

Anyway, I've got these pills, potions and lotions sitting in my garage. I need your addresses and a check and they'll be on their way

LOL>>> check out the many so called "mlm's" that "sell websites"...or "sell reports"...or "sell email lists" or whatever......there are many low rent mlm's that do "teach" Internet marketing and stuff....they come and go....start and stop...

Now...I am sure there are some legit ones, that sell products but I don't think telemarketing, or "networking" will work very well. I think most people who "succeed" in mlm know a lot of people and are able to host "get togethers" and sign them up etc,

I feel my calling skills are strong but I would not want to try to "sell" an mlm program to small biz owners JMO

Why are you calling "former" business owners? These people are out of business. Some of them retired and don't want to work anymore. Some are in debt up to their eyeballs. Others are bankrupt. A few may be looking at new business opportunities, but the statistics say they're more likely screwed than not.

Why don't you offer services as a VA, writer, etc and start putting some cash in your pocket first? It shouldn't take too long to bank $200-$400.00. Then you won't be calling people from a position of desperation. That sucks and most people can sense it in your voice.

Find products that have a lot of other products to sell on the backend once you've made your initial sales. That way you won't be "one and done" when you sell something. You can keep calling and selling until they tell you to stop.

Look for a single niche that uses a lot of repeat expendables. Construction is great for this! Go buy products from your competitors, go direct to the manufacturer and see what their minimum order is in order to drop ship products, use Ebay and Amazon to buy and resell stuff.

Use your head and get creative.

The great Marlon Sanders once said "find out where the money is being spent and throw yourself in its path".

Do that and you'll make money, because you'll be contacting people that actually NEED what you offer and MUST buy it somewhere. Even if you suck on the phone you're going to accidentally make a few sales.

    Now get to work!

By the way, yes I've done ALL of that and STILL do some of it.
