Alibaba - Scammers' Paradise?

A thread on this forum asking if anyone had tips on how to avoid being scammed on Alibaba has had over 17,000 views.

Because of that amount of interest, I thought members might like to see this thread: China's Consumer Protection Watchdog Reports On Alibaba

It shows why that question is so important.

This link that you’ve shown about Alibaba is not exactly new.

That controversy has rocked Alibaba’s stock and has caused the company also with some problems.

With that said, Alibaba is just simply too big and too strong to let third parties scam them out of their prominence.

Alibaba is run by a smart man, Jack Ma.

Expect serious changes to happen sometime in the future and expect Alibaba to eventually get its act together.

Just like with any kind of platform, as it branches out to different verticals and as it tries different exchange models, there are sure to be rough spots ahead.

    Everybody knows this.

This is just a part of the process.

However, you can tell a lot about a company regarding their future prospects depending on how decisive their leadership acts.

If Alibaba takes strong steps against the scammers then you can rest assured that things will pan out.

Not saying you're wrong...but it is a very broad assumption.

This news relates to the current situation. Too many people seem to be getting confused between Alibaba's status on the stock market and their position as a platform to provide supposedly safe contact between buyers and sellers of products.

The third parties you refer to are the sellers that they allow to use their platform without proper verification or control. Alibaba are certainly too big to lose their prominence, but buyers should be smart enough to wake up to the risks they are taking by using this wild west type platform.

They were supposed to get their act together after the debacle of 2011 when they admitted that 2236 Gold Supplies had scammed buyers.

The report I have quoted shows that they have failed miserably, and Alibaba is still a scammers' paradise.

Hopefully they will eventually get their act together but meanwhile thousands of buyers are losing their shirts.

This is why people need to learn how to source safely.

Alibaba getting their acts together would be close to impossible. If they really want to clean up their act, they should have done so long ago. As long as they don't change and their management remains the same, Alibaba would remain a scammer's paradise.

Aliexpress has all the same problems. Same ownership. Same Management. Same token verification (that the SAIC report says can't be trusted anyway.) Same fake feedback system. Same bribery problem. ETC ETC.
