Website Review and any Advice Appreciated

Hi all.

I'm finally taking the plunge into the offline world. I've been doing the IM thing for my own sites for 20 years now - time to make some money doing it for others.

http://ottawawebpromotion.com/

I'd appreciate any feedback anyone could give on my first attempt to get this site off the ground. Obviously I have a LOT more work to do - just looking to get some help along the way.

Thanks to all in advance.

Awesome site! I love the robot dance aha. If you can I would put a call to action in the header. Probably a transparent button that will target services. Something like "Find out more" then it will scroll down to the target. Next I would remove the right hand mini floating slider, I don't think it's necessary.

When clicking on free course to get your ebook I would open in new window, atleast if they exit the ebook offering they will still have your website open in another window. I'd also see if you can put the call to action at the top. Have a real slim opt in like:

Put in your name and email to receive our 5 day crash course on the power of Facebook marketing! [ name ] [ email ] [Submit]

Make it appear at the top right under your header image. Before the services section.

Your main focus is to get opt ins at the moment, so make sure that is the first thing they see.

Your site looks awesome and I love the design! Great work so far! Hopefully some of this information helps you out.

    It is a pretty site.

I would suggest you immediately change "Designed by Elegant Themes" to Designed by "Ottawa Web Promotions"...

Is there really a need for Social media icons on the top, floating on the left, and the bottom? Serious question, not a criticism. Just looks like overkill to me.

I'm a little concerned that your top menu is not immediately visible and forces me to scroll down to find something I can click for more information.

Just a few initial observations...but again. appearance wise it looks very nice.

But, I'll bet your more concerned if it will convert, than look pretty...

here is a question for you... I land on your page what it is you want me to do? I just landed on your page for the first time so on your home page.. I'm not signing up for your newsletter.. just aint going to happen. Im not interested in learning how to do Social Media.. that's why im on your site.. seems a bit counter intuitive let alone counter productive at this point...

So now that your 2 call to actions are nixed out.. then what? I could call you I guess.. but wait that was like really small in the upper right and no where else. hmmm I could contact you.. oh wait you don't have a contact us page... I could just learn more about you then before signing up for your newsletter.. oh that's right cant do that either, you don't have an about us page.

Guess what.. I just turned into a bounce. nothing for me to click, and no way to learn more.

YOUR page is NOT about YOU... it is HOW you can benefit your CLIENT. If you designed a page for a client to speak to their customers in the same manor you are trying to communicate to your potential clients... everyone involved is in trouble.

Thanks to all 3 of you for the comments. They are all very much appreciated.

Here's what I've done so far to improve things:

    1) Removed side dot navigation
    2) increased the size of the font on the top bar
    3) Added a button in the video that links to the services section
    4) Made the top navigation so that it appears immediately and stays there
    5) Removed the social icons from the footer

Things I still need to do based on the recommendations:

    1) Contact us page
    2) About us page
    3) Call to action higher up on the page

My thought process behind the courses is not to teach them how to do it for themselves. It's to make them realize how much time and effort is involved and make them want my services even more. Is that logic heading in the wrong direction?

Clearly, I still have a lot of work to do. My thought was to come here early so I could head in the right direction.

Thanks to you all for the suggestions. Please feel free to keep them coming.

It looks nice. You do know that you still have dummy text by a lot of the icons?

The robot dance is cute but wow..it reminds me how different things are in South Florida LOL

No one wears long sleeves, heavy suits...the lady with the high neck grey blouse and dark skirt? OMG ...no one could wear that here . I guess Canada people dress like that so it is cool, always best to look "local".

Yeah, I know about the dummy text. Writer's block. ARGH!!!!

We even have this cool new thing up here called...let me get it right....air conditioning. Not everyone lives in climates like South Florida.

LOL>> well I always say (and so do others) that when we see someone in a dark suit white shirt tie we think wedding, funeral or court date haha

question -"What do you say to a guy in a 3 piece suit?"
answer - "Will the defendant please rise?"

Another thought - the slider at bottom with various "types" of biz...I would add one "generic" or montage or generic and say something like "whatever biz you are in" ....not sure if I am describing this correct, but the fact is that many of these small biz owners are so literal minded, if they think you just handle lawyers, mortgage brokers etc they may not call.

"we help all sorts of small biz owners"...etc

    ..

I think if someone wore a white suit here you'd be looked at kinda funny. Not so much in FL I guess.

    You make a good point.

I'm actually trying to limit my clients to those that are (what I consider at least) high margin that can afford the type of rates I'll be charging.

I don't want a bakery or a convenience store or any of the other many business types that I don't think I can help or that I don't think I can make any money on.

I like the idea of the montage as opposed to the slider though. Hmmm......

I guess that is one way of looking at it, but until you get a portfolio or know you can help "those' particular clients, why exclude others? If you set prices beyond a what a "bakery or convenience store" will pay, they just won't hire you. However, there may be a new "boutique" bakery with money to spend ...why exclude them?

When you say you can "help" - I don't know about Canada but here I know lawyers and mortgage brokers are really regulated in what you can do in marketing.

There are all sorts of niches and ? who knows..I have had some odd ones to be sure, but you just don't know. For instance you seem to ignore doctors, chiropractors, psychologists.....? I personally found the big mouth picture offputting - especially given the layout of divi - it just was jarring...I would do a montage or find a montage slider - and call it medical/dental or heath professions....I would do a montage of lawyer/insurance/mortgage..maybe real estate in there...and some sort of generic montage

I see you have restaurants and auto - actually auto guys can be a pain in the butt...and cheap to boot. I have found them to be hard to work with - never have their logo, pictures, etc. Restaurants and autos are not necessarily big spenders either.

There are whole other areas and stuff you never thought of that might need your services....if you are "open" to them. For instance, I have done an "event" promotion for the past 2 years and will do it again this winter - a seasonal event....the owner/promoter pays well and it is cool for about 4 months.

Unless you actually have experience and plan to concentrate on one field (like a lead/site and build sites etc for one profession be it law, dentist or whatever) I would be open to any one , if you want to stick at price range stick to it and anyone who pays can hire you (my exceptions are adult, or hate stuff)
Other than that, I will do anything LOL

Actually Drs are useless in Canada for marketing. Social healthcare - bleh. Some day they'll privatize and this will be a HUGE niche. I'll be sure to be among the first to hit it.

As far as restaurants - I"m more along the lines of online reputation management - Yelp, etc.

I'll likely have to rethink the auto - thanks. Just did - killed the slide.

Thanks for the event promotion idea. I had toyed with it but wasn't sure. I'll be sure not to take any clients for this in South Florida.

I'm also considering another site that's essentially the same but takes the "local" part out of it (as in a national or international feel to it rather than just Ottawa). I just figure it's easier to start locally where I can meet my clients face to face. I'll keep that one on the back burner for now.

I'll try to be more open to different types of businesses. Thanks for the advice.
