Cold Calls In The Morning, Script OK?

You call the business:

They say: "Thanks for calling [Business Name] this is [Persons Name] how can I help you?"

We say: Hey [Person's Name] this is Casey, I was wondering if the manager or owner was around? (Why?) Well I made a video review about your business and I just wanted to show it to them. Who takes care of that for your office/business?"

Any changes need to be made? Thoughts?

Starting calls at 8 am. 7/22/15 Will come back and update.

I'm doing video reviews for a foot in the door & upselling later on. I started another post using a directory but this is much faster than building that.. for me anyways. Thanks for the help.

Sounds good....the review should interest them

Directories are so overdone now IMHO...I am sure this is an easier entry...just be sure you have your "real" offer thought out and ready to roll

I like your opening...but it makes me ponder...

You are creating a review video for a company you have never used and are now cold calling?

That's what I wanted to know. Should I word it as "promotional video" instead of "video review?"

Is the video review about something you found lacking, missing or otherwise off with their
        website?

If so, you really would be providing a thoughtful heads up about it and would probably be well received anytime during the business day.

I'm not suggesting you need to change from review to promotional. I was just asking for a little clarification on your process.

There are many ways to do a video review and have it be 100% legit. You could call the receptionist, talk to her for 3 minutes, ask about their prices, and make a review video that says something as simple as:

"I was greeted with enthusiasm when I called XYZ company for the first time. I was surprised by their great prices and friendly attitude. I will not hesitate to call them again."

Of course...If she was rude....Oh well..

So my little girl ended up having to stay home today because she wasn't feeling good so I'm not able to do calls this morning. BUT I have the whole day off and wasn't going to waste it. I got on Facebook around 9ish..

I've sent 59 msg to businesses related to my niche & I've had 12 request to see the video with 0 purchases so far. I got a message from Facebook asking me to identify pictures to make sure I wasn't a robot I guess so I'm taking a break out of fear from being banned

    Stats again:
    59 msgs sent
    12 videos sent
    0 sales

I don't see how I could be banned for sending msgs to facebook pages that have the msgs tab available?

Here are the msgs I'm sending.
    1. Hey there! I just made a promotional video of your business and wanted to see if it's ok if I sent it to you? I can post the link here or send it to an email address, what would be best?

2.Great! Thank you so much! This one is a demo.. I'd like to add your information and pictures but wanted to get your permission first, hope you like it..

    https://youtu.be/voYkCYBQSR4

We also do website's, logos & Facebook Pages

Any thoughts on tweeking to maybe land me a sell?

That's about like saying "I don't know how come my domain got blacklisted in the spam filters for sending emails to people with email addresses on their websites.."

Because technically, it is unsolicited contact that violates the TOS of Facebook, that's why you COULD get banned.

I understand you are home, but what prevents you from picking up the phone and calling a business anyway?

Last note...but I'll let the pro's chime in. I suspect your video is not high enough quality to entice very many businesses to jump on board. Check out the competition and see what quality of videos they use.

Congrats! I would suggest you get a youtube channel for your biz videos, or else hide the vids of your little cutie (from 2 years ago). It will make you look more professional. Make sure you have a nice background and logo and write up your about , hook to your website etc

I think you should call them a promotional video not a review...."I made a demo of how YOUR video is going to look" (I said is going to because I always...always assume the sale haha)

Calling it a "review' is kind of misleading, and/or can trigger some head trash in the biz owner "I don't even want reviews, sick of them, bye".

Just my suggestions - take care and keep up the work.

Ps - if you are going to message biz owners...like their page first

change up the wording in your message, don't just copy and paste like a bot

don't overdo it....chill for a bit- keep your account safe

Is there a limit as far as messages via Facebook?

I'm going to create a separate YouTube account for this. I didn't expect it to go this well, caught me off guard a little bit. Lol

Congrats on your first sale bud. So you're sending out video just like that? Was wondering how you were able to send so many out in a little time period.

And don't worry bout the videos of your little one. Shows you're a family man... but the other videos of you on the stripper pole don't look too professional haha.

Make sure to ask for referrals... it's a huge mistake some newbies forget. Again, congrats!

Haha. Man I haven't looked at those videos in forever. Gotta get that fixed lol. Oh man.

But ya, that's it. That's all I sent out. I counted it up I only sent out 53 msgs before I got a thing from Facebook asking me to identify pictures. I guess to make sure I wasn't a robot. Once that happened though I didn't send anymore because one as sending them from my personal account and didn't want to get banned or anything.

That's why I'm curious if anyone knows if there's a limit on sending msgs to business pages? I don't see why there would be if the business page has its msg button available?

I would just hate to get banned when I've found something that's working for me.

Casey, might find some answers here https://www.facebook.com/help/326534794098501/

Usually Facebook doesn't ask you to verify identity because of too many messages being sent. Usually it's from someone actually marking your message as spam or abusive.

From that link though, I wouldn't send out more than 150 a day.

But... You have no idea how thankful I am for this place. And a HUGE thank you to everyone in this post. Actually any post I've ever started.. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! Seriously.

I hope that doesn't sound as lame to you all as it does to me after reading it back to myself. haha

      But who cares.. THANK YOU!

And a quick update for anybody who is curious.. I haven't sent anymore msg for fear of being banned or suspended..so

      53 msg sent
21 asked to see the video!!
      6 businesses getting photos together!!!

No actual cash yet.. But still super excited!

When you call a business and say, "is the owner in?", it immediately puts the gate keeper on the defensive. It is the gate keeper's job to keep you away from their boss who is always too busy to speak with sales people. If possible, try to figure out the owners name. Companies like Sales Genie will sell you access to their database in 'view only' mode (not downloading) for fairly cheap.

The best advice I can give you that works for me is to speak in a slow even tone. Many 'phone pros' will tell you to sound excited but in my experience that makes you sound like an annoying infomercial. By speaking slowly and evenly it forces the prospect to slow down and actually listen to you. If they interrupt and say that they are busy always say, "ok I understand, what time should I give you a call back?" Always assume they want you to call and always assume the sale.

When a prospect tells me no I always make it a point to act surprised and imply that nobody has told me no yet. Also, if they say no, ask why. Learning what your prospects objections are will help you fine tune your presentation and over time you will learn to address the most common objections before they come up in conversation.

    Good Luck!

Send an invoice that clearly states that the work is not finalized until payment is received and the offer expires in 5 days.

My advice is watermark your videos, send the watermarked video to the client with a purchase link to purchase the original video that doesn't include a watermark.

        Keep it simple.

BTW, you can use something like selz.com, you only pay a small fee If you make a sale. Zero out of pocket to start. Free sub-domain & secure file hosting. Zip the original video file If needed & you should be good to go...

Send an invoice, pick up the phone and call them and say:

"Mr business owner, I understand you want to move forward with the images and video, in order for me to do that, I require funds to start the process of. How will you be paying, bank transfer or CC?"

Now you listen to what he says. From that point onwards, he'll either stall you or pay. As mentioned earlier, don't do any work until you're paid.

I know what it feels like to get a "YES" from a client and get all excited and start work but let them put their money where their mouth is first. If they stall many times times, call them out directly, and threaten to move on if they don't pay by a certain date.

You're probably new to offline but you gotta make sure they are your equal. You're a business owner now so act like one to them. You'll then find out whos being serious and who's not.

Just be "matter-of-fact" about it. Do you feel like your plumber is nagging when he gives you a bill?

Business people expect you to ask to be paid. They expect you to tell them what payment forms you accept. They tell their customers that all day, and hear it from their vendors.

All you need is a branded .png image with a transparent background. Add the image to the video editor timeline so it shows the full length of the video.

If you're selling raw cell phone video you're not even trying.

Well....that's my point ....Before selling videos wouldn't one think all this through?

maybe they need a forum here for total newbies here? I will avoid it cause this is getting out of hand

maybe we just need a HUGE GOOGLE SIGN HERE??

I mean..if you are goin to market videos wouldn't you know how to do a watermark?
wouldn't you figure out a payment method ahead of time? how about a youtube page ?

would one really try to sell video put together on a cell phone? yup I guess so

and better still should other people who have developed skills over the years, worked their business, try to give value to clients...should we even encourage this?

I'm not suggesting OP give up, If he's got any sales he's obviously doing something right but I personally wouldn't be selling raw cell phone video If that's what's happening here in this thread.

I would look at it like this, out of 53 contacts only 6 are interested, that right there could be a quality issue which leaves room to boost sales later after learning how to use video editing software.

Actually 6 out of 53 is good - if they are truly interested/qualified and buying

My problem comes with the fact that stuff like this hurts those who actually work offline

Linkedin just cut down contacting group members to only 15 per month - which hurts those who used it responsibly. I don't think I contacted that many (unconnected group members) per month but now I can't if I wanted to

Facebook has been limiting stuff and making it a lot harder - now new accounts need to verify a phone number.

Those who wish to "help" - go for it. I don't care to - my choice.cause all this info is out there on google already - a person serious about their biz would have most of this in place.

Well.....in looking at your posting history, you have started 3 threads since 2013, all about You you you....asking for help

People gave you advice to start an seo biz in 2013..

then you had a thread about starting a directory recently

now it's how to set up a video biz

Is the purpose here for people to just drop everything and answer every basic question that could easily be found with a simple search? Do engineering forums gather round to help someone with Algebra 1? Should a graphic design forum prop up someone who is playing with the Paint program for the first time? JMO no- sorry

Some people never help anyone else, or participate unless it is all about them
People who only post in their own threads, who keep wanting advice and help and such and seem demanding? Uh huh...just like the other guy who now wants people to tell him how to set up an "agency" - he also has a string of help me posts

If others want to play the enabler go for it....

Craigslist, Facebook LinkedIn etc have all tightened up cause of people who could not be bothered to read the rules and who made it all about "them"...then said "Oh I didn't know"
That makes it harder on everyone else

Your facebook question - facebook has a help button
                answer is there

2 weeks ago many here gave you sound advice - and then you apparently abandoned that biz idea and never posted a follow up and now here you are wanting more advice, much of what is covered in help sections
(ie facebook has a help section)

I am seeing a pattern of people who only come here when they want stuff...people coddle them and try to help them then they just leave...no thanks no update no nothing
Then they are back again to ask the same questions, different topic

Have you ever tried to help anyone else? Congratulate them on a small victory? If they posted something like "which ad do you think is better" do you chime in? No

You had a thread a couple weeks ago, people wasted their time giving you advice on your last idea (a directory)
Did you come back to share your experience, good or bad? no
You actually may be able to "help" others by sharing what went "wrong" with your last 2 ventures
= doing seo and webdesign without knowing how to do either and hoping to "outsource" without knowing who or where to outsource to
and - trying to build a local directory in 2015 with very little or no capitol or backing

You could share what happened, but no, you didn't.

Hey some folks here are selling stuff so maybe they think you will buy (I doubt it)
                    Whatever

Are you making these videos on a cell phone? I am not sure you can 'watermark" a video on a cell phone...not sure what you are using...I know a quick trick to do it but I work from a computer and/or a laptop. I can't imagine doing graphic or video work on a phone?????????

Did you plan to run a business?

I mean seriously didn't you think about setting up business accounts, payment arrangements?

What you are asking goes way beyond the scope of a forum...google is your friend

for starters...the kiddo pictures on your youtube..NO way I would run a biz with kid pictures...

you should set up a business youtube and business page on facebook.....biz owners are reporting you and that is why you are getting the "picture" captcha thingy.....you have already been reported so you are going to have to cool it...you will have to join groups, get a biz page, like pages and so forth IMHO

I agree with everyone here - you need to watermark the vids and send an invoice paypal or >>?
did you set up a business account? YOu will need to hook up bank to that

since you are working locally I would go in to the biz and collect in person on this first go round

then JMO get your self set up before you try to sell more - every sale needs a sales process in place

I was fortunate that I learned this working for others and was able to apply it to myself

For me this is still the hardest part - I have no problem "selling" or "doing">>> I do find I have to continuously revise the "process" (my major problem continues to be clients who don't have the passwords, graphics, don'tknow where their domain is registered, had an old it person who has the passwords, biz partners arguing over what they want and telling me to do 2 diff things and so forth)

I see a lot of people here who decide to "work offline" but they may get a sale with intent to "farm it out" but they do not have anyone or anything in place...no way to get paid and so forth.

There is an Android program called "Add Watermark Free" that does it.

I have not used this program personally, but one of my kids uses it on some of their videos they share on Facebook and YouTube...

Yeah but would you create and sell videos to businesses made on your cell phone?

        I just can't imagine it.

Casey, way to go on continuing to take action.

Don't take "negative sounding" posts as a "beat down". Usually they are not intended that way.

Re-read the posts and make a list of things you can improve on as you keep taking action.

I can assure you...FreebieQueen1999, Yukon, and every other poster in this thread are happy to see someone taking action...It is rare.

Don't take posts personally, take them as educational and they will help you improve your business.

I would save your time and energy and probably email these prospects first, you'll be able to cover a larger volume of prospects and it'll be more efficient both time and energy wise.

Also 8am feels early, I 'd recommend 10-11 so people have a chance to settle in once they get into work.
