For those who hate inferior service providers making more money than you do...

Doesn't it grind your gears that a service provider who clearly
provides a inferior service than you,
can not only survive but suck people into buying their crap?

Their marketing is all hype and yet you wonder how anybody can fall for that.

Here's the secret, they use manipulation of the mind.

For most, especially the educated professional,
this is akin to selling one's soul to the devil.

It needn't be.

Here's the extreme forces you are faced with.

People will take extreme measures to avoid making a buying decision,
even if it's in their best interest.

This means it takes extreme forces of influence through
mind manipulation to get people to buy the best products and services.

There is product and service centric advertising which
is the most common and least effective.

The reason is because it doesn't immediately connect to the person's
existing condition.

Existing condition is the way they feel about their enemy.

Example: Newly divorced woman hates the new woman
having a bad influence over her ex and kids.

Example: Hate making a mistake with buying something
with a big ticket price due to the money was hard to come by.

Example: Hate spending most of the day going from website to website finding the right style of clothes. Even worse, the one brand liked most ends that line altogether! Would of spent a whole lot more money if they had of updated that same style.

Example: Restaurant owner hates he can't get away for a holiday because he can't trust anybody to run it in his absence. So he has to close it down if he wants to go on holiday. Wife, kids are on his case, he sees what seems like everybody else is going on holiday's, but not him.

Example: Hates the constant churn of salespeople. Nobody can sell like him, they make dumb mistakes because they can't see opportunities to close when they are in front of them. Give them his best training and
they still can't sell to a thirsty man in a desert.

Example: Men arthritis sufferers feel deep frustration and anger over not being able to do things they used to do and still want to

Women on the other hand resign to their fate and think it would of been nice to do the things they use to do but, oh well never mind.

Those are all examples of dominant emotions
around subjects people are too well aware of.

Another form of mental manipulation is boxing people into one group or another.

You make it clear each group have certain traits and actions, either good or bad.

Now they are forced to decide which actions they must take
to match the winner or loser identity you named.

Example: Quite frankly most restaurant owners are ok working
without taking a holiday and handling the pressure of kids and wife
wanting you all to go to family events and a holiday escape.

It takes a renegade to do what most restaurant owners don't...

Give a damn about their family and make their business work
so they don't have to close it down to take time away.

End

Now it's whether they care about their family or not...ouch!

Yep, no place for being subtle.

See, this is an example of extreme measure because your good prospective clients
use extreme measures to not make a decision to buy, even if it's for their own good.

There are other ways to manipulate minds too.

You can feel good about using mental manipulation because what
you sell is top notch and in some cases, transformational in the life of your client.

Yes, we would rather not have to do this and default to product and service benefits and features.

However, a dose of cold hard reality
what we are up against to get a person to take action to buy,
then fanciful notions of what you want
compared to what works, has gotta get kicked to the curb.

Best,
Doctor dose of reality Vile

Thanks Ewen for sharing some of the most pertinent advice that all business owners or wannabes need to hear.

The words..."educated professional" just resonated in my mind having talked with a guy that sells dating advice.

We were talking in the back room of an event and the discussion arose about people over complicating things.

Most of his best prospects are of a higher IQ.

His observations were that these types of (men) tend to over analyse the situation that is is front of them and in many cases have never picked up a woman.

Sometimes in business this over analysis is what causes people to not recognise what to the seasoned marketer like yourself recognises in an instant.

Too often the focus is on improving the product or promoting the product without enough basic understanding of what the real motivation for the "IDEAL" prospect is.

Take heed people.....READ EWEN'S POST AGAIN.

Then set a reminder in your Calendar to read it again

    Set to repeat monthly.

    I know I will.

    Doctor E...

This is fabulous stuff. As you're aware, I come from a sales and marketing background of large scale technical solutions to Fortune 500 organizations. In these situations the buying / evaluation process is completely different and is designed to remove that emotional element from the decision making criteria.

So when we have a business venture trying to sell products and services to consumers, or even to small business, the decision maker may not have the same educational background or experience as their counterpart in the larger organizations. Consequently we will get a lot more response in these situations to messaging that amplifies a particular problem in an emotional context especially - and then offers up our service or product as the 'best' solution.

What's interesting to me, is that selling to bigger businesses is focused on identifying value (features and benefits) while consumers and small business owners are especially prone to messages of 'fear' or 'greed'.

    Great post Ewen!
