Amazon in the lead gen business for local home contractors

Amazon Home Services : Amazon.com

Going after Angie's List and Home Adviser.

They now have 1 hour delivery for products
in London.

Makes you wonder what other industries they have sights on
to attack.

Check out their news stories from just this week..

It sounds like that could be useful for a lot of people. I know here in the US they've bee wanting to use drones to deliver packages same-day, but I heard they've been having a hard time getting the FAA to approve it.

I know they have their own fleet of vans in LA to deliver groceries
      and other household items.

Once they are in their homes, credit cards on file,
they control a big chunk of a households spend
which is their ultimate aim, I believe.

Streaming shows, credit cards is just 2 examples
of getting a bigger chunk of households spending money.

Coca Cola made a statement many years ago they wanted to control the biggest
share of liquids going into a human stomach.

      Amazon has much bigger plans.

Wow....this just reinforces my idea that "lead gen" is NOT as easy as people would make you believe.

Between Angie's List, Thumbtack, Home Advisor, now Amazon....not so easy.

Lead Gen...."Deal Sites"...."Directory Sites".....all pretty much swallowed up by the big players.

A friend of mine had a spa directory/coupon site that did pretty well in our state before Groupon swooped on the scene...then buh bye.

Yes......you can still build a better mousetrap...or you can get lucky...or maybe you have a very cute or unusual cat or dog who will "go viral"? BUT...the idea of "build it and they will come" is just a dream I do think....I just don't think you can buy a $27 "report" and "rank on page one" in hours and sell leads or sites like hot cakes...it is so bogus

#1 clothing retailer in 2 years.

Think of all the other categories they can own...

It will never happen. Amazon, to say it lightly, sucks. Those guys cannot make a profit.
When the credit (debt) market collapses Amazon will be done playing in other markets it has no business in. The same goes for a lot of the internet companies.

Perhaps they will team up with Uber and give google a run for the "self driven car" market...Uber is busy developing one, they stole a lot of google engineers away at Carnegie Mellon I read

    They do have Amazon Payments.

Match.com took over Plenty of Fish. LinkedIn owns Lynda now.

Can the rise of the Machines or the "world order" be at hand?

If you want to "skeer" yourself, take a look at the great old movie with Stallone and Sandra Bullock -

This is old news Ewen, in that I read about it a couple of years ago.
Believe the source was Gary North/Bonner/Agora. Not sure.

Will try and dig up the bookmark.

Same types of things were said about Walmart/Sam's...it didn't happen.

Did some small establishments go under from the effect?

Yes. Those who would not adapt.

        Others took their place.

Still others opened specialty businesses, well niched, with little competition.
        Especially from the big guys.

There are limits...resource limits, for even the biggest.

They simple cannot be the biggest/most-est in everything.

Coke will never surpass water as the most consumed liquid.

Not even with their "flavored water" offerings.

PS Back in the day, it was predicted by the news media, that GM would swallow the other cars companies
This is the same rodeo, different day. Same pencil-necks shouting "fire!".

And some of us have seen it many times before.

I would never make that bet.

Try living in the Philippines, Thailand, or another second-tier country. You buy processed water from purification stores and do not drink the tap water. You get your water in 5-gallon containers you have refilled at the local purifier.

While that seems unlikely in the USA today, it is not an impossibility with decreasing quality of water distribution systems.

If Coke captured the market on local purification centers that refilled 5-gallon jugs like they do in the Philippines, it could happen.

Is the company that makes Coke operating water purification centers in the Philippines?

If not, what is your point?

Did you know that the 5 water brands that Coke has in their stables ( actually I think there are more than 5 ) out sell Coke collectively? I believe the stat is by unit, and not about profit.

I have no idea if Coca Cola is an investor in any of those companies or not, and don't intend to research the issue.

My point...Just because tap water provided by government systems is the most consumed fluid right now, does not mean it will stay that way. Coca Cola is in a position to dominate in purified water if it becomes necessary in the future.

Your statement "never" seemed a bit wrong since purified water is necessary in a large portion of the world and is a growing industry. Whether Coca Cola will ever dominate that market is uncertain, but they do have the potential.

Did you know that Water is the most consumed liquid on the planet?

There is water in, and or added to, virtually every food that we consume

In fact, just the water that is in our food, is more than Coke will ever
provide, anywhere, anytime, by whatever means.

Yes, Barry...just the water in the food. Not even counting drinking water.

I'll tell ya...I think the future is here....Amazon will soon have drones flying in ....self driving cars from google.....Google has artificial intelligence machines that "draw" "their idea" of various objects or people...the pictures are scary....lots and lots of dog faces and eyes and stuff....spooky

A new study said a majority of managers would use intelligent robots to replace many office workers...

Would you trust Angie's List and Home Advisor over Amazon ? People have no problem paying Amazon, but to pay some of these others mention might have raise a red flag.

Before joining the other two sites, someone may seek out the Better Business Bureau, friends, family, neighbors and the local Home Improvement centers for solid references. A person can even go to your local electrical supply store to ask about a decent Electrical Contractor. Interesting to see how this all plays out.

True but once "into" Amazon they offer deals...I can totally imagine them offering this service for a free trial , offering it to Prime members for free trial and less money...rolling it into other packages they offer etc.

I also think service biz would want to give Amazon a try - and I bet they would offer them some sweet starting deals.

That's what I was saying in the second sentence, people are familiar with Amazon and trust them. Especially if the offer was made to Prime.

With Angie's List you have to pay to look up a company, why bother when you can walk into Home Depot or Lowes and they can provide a contractor and a great warranty.

Amazon may surpass Angie's List & Home Advisors. We will find out over time which of these wins out or we may see two merge and knock off the other. Could be another upstart out there that out performs all of them.
