Where to find businesses that don't have a website???

I'm trying to target businesses without a website. I'm currently using Manta and YellowPages but I'm not sure if the data is accurate or not.

For example, YellowPages says they don't have a website. But when I google the business or call them, they do have a website.

I feel like there's a better way to find businesses that don't have a website. Any ideas?

You just said you are using yellow pages, google and a phone. It seems like that is the magic formula right there (though I am not sure yellow pages does anything google can't)

If you are looking for the Master Directory of All Businesses Without a Web Site (TM), I don't think you'll find it.

Let me throw this out at you as well... if you are looking in google for small businesses without a web site and contact one with your pitch but they tell you they already have one... they still have a problem, don't they?

Change the niche keyword (tattoo) to whatever you're targeting.

I would think it would be easier to get businesses to update a current site than to move a non-site business to bridge the huge challenge of building a website.

Businesses that don't have websites in 2015 have generally determined that they don't need one. There are many businesses today that totally rely on Facebook for their Internet presence and are happy to not have to bother with everything they perceive as a problem in maintaining a website.

You can find that belief silly, or even ill-advised, but it's the truth for many.

Local SEO can even be done for businesses that don't have a website.

I also agree with massiveray, businesses that have websites are already proven buyers. Conversions are much better in that crowd.

strange...i seem to have better luck targeting businesses that don't have a website.

how do you get past "we already have a website, not interested."?

only a few seconds to say something before they hang up the phone.

You don't try to get past it, these people aren't your market. It's the ones who react positively that you try to sell to.

Why dont you start with your neighborhood.. If you are targeting small business ?..
Get Business cards and start with your locality then move onto further.. I am sure that will help..

    • My quick advice is, if you're having trouble finding customers that don't have web sites in your particular market, you may want to look towards a more "working suburb" or depressed economic area.

You will find whole new batch of potential customers. While I agree some business you will approach will be "old school" and may not see the value in getting a website, many will. Just keep in mind your audience when you present. Try not to speak too far over peoples heads, use clear, polite, concise "non techie" talk. IMHO It will serve you far better than telling a guy with no website about the latest Wordpress plugin and analytics conversion optimization results he can expect on an SEO and CPA affiliate program.

Many older and old school business owners can feel "small" when you talk to far above their head. IMO, most people are less apt to buy if you talk down(even inadvertently) to them or use to many terms and words the they don't know. Just focus on helping them grown their business.

Last but not least, business owner don't want your website. Sorry its, true. But, they do very much want NEW clients, so that is what you must be selling. Get one raving fan to write you a recommendation on their letterhead about how awesome of a person you are and how much THE MADE from the site you built them . That note will close you more more deals than any snazzy closing technique you can learn. (unless there is a new WSO I missed)

This approach has served me very well for many years in the suburbs and smaller cities of the New England area before accepting my current position. Your mileage may vary though.

Best of luck to you! Some businesses are old school, but it's not by choice. I hope this advice helps you and others in the same business close some big deals!

No, no, you're wrong. A highly recommended WSO from a member here says a website is essential - so it must be so...!
        Sarcasm off.

Great advice. And the better you are at producing a website that actually sells, the more successful you become and the higher prices you can charge...

BTW my main business (into 8 figures now) runs without a website... And no, I don't want a sales call...!
