Is there any market for student local IM services?

Hello,
I am a student and I want to make some money with online and offline marketing for local small businesses.
I have experience online: ppc, local SEO, webdesign, Wordpress etc., offline: flyers, local ads, cold calling.

Do you think there is a market for students offering these services?

The problem is I have no reputation , no connections, no testimonials or referrals. How can I start from scratch?

Should I walk in and offer them to help expand their business based on commission first? I could do some small free or cheap service for them and visit them next week, ask if they have seen results and if they want more.

But many small biz owners think it will not work.
How can I educate them, print out some good helpful report about IM, which will make them want it? But they have no time and no staff to implement it, so I would offer them my services.

What would be the best market segment and the best first offer to start with?

How to find some small biz to do it for free, just to get testimonials?

thanks

I posted this question in main forum already, but they told me there I should post it in offline forum.

SEO: rank a page for a good keyword, say, home insurance Las Vegas, then you contact insurance agents (first in Las Vegas, then everywhere else): Hey, If you were to google Home insurance Las Vegas, I'm #2. Which means, I get X visitors, out of which 36.4% contact me. I can have them contact you... I can do that for you in Corpus Cristi... I mean, get you to be #2 in Google and have a bunch of people visit your site and X% of them contact you.

Webdesign and wordpress... Just put something up...

    And so on.

I once told a guy most websites I see are all wrong.

He asked me what is a right website.

I asked them to open Google, like they're ready to browse. Then I told them why I thought that was a great website.

I meet him at a networking event. I didn't have much time, so I kept it short. I was not interested in selling him... I was just making conversation... But he followed up... Could I take a look at his site and see what I can do?

I, of course, could. And did.

I got him interested just by presenting ideas...

Later, he checked out my site... Which looks crappy... but has the right content.

Did I say, I got him interested in what I could do by showing him Google's homepage on his tablet?

What's stopping you? If you're experienced in ppc then pick a niche in your area, build a campaign and gets some leads in your pocket.

Walk in or cold call your target niche and offer them a lead for a chance to sit down and have a conversation about bringing them in consistently.

Thank you, I will try both, first PPC and in the meantime I will work on some website for local SEO.
Are there also some local industries offering commissions the same way like online companies to affiliates? So that one doesnt need to explain them what he is doing and negotiate with every single small biz? It would make it easier just give them leads and collect commissions.

I'm a current student and closed a lawyer for lead gen today after already making him a website. Also doing lead gen for a real estate agency. Age is just a number, if you can show in hard numbers that you're legit a smart business owner won't care. I use my age to my advantage and compare my older competition to NFL runningbacks, lots of experience isn't necessarily a good thing in this field.

Start by ranking your own website as proof of concept, I can tell through your post that you aren't confident in your abilities and people will sense that right away. Make an LLC, buy business cards, tell your friends and family, you have to convince yourself that your are on equal footing with these guys, convince yourself that your are a business owner too, even if you don't feel like it, fake it till you make it. I look at it as if I have the keys to making any business owner more money and if they don't want my services they're stupid, that's how I can go talk to people who have been in business longer than I've been alive.

If you can show a business owner that you can provide significant ROI and they are still fighting you tooth and nail, you don't want to do business with them anyway. Move on and work with someone who has a brain.

Do you need to tell them you are a student?

Business owners don't care about your age or credentials.

    They only buy your confidence!

My first consulting client was in Turkey when I was about 18 years old doing high school. At that time I charged him $1500 upfront + $500m.

I did not sold him on SEO or any other internet marketing service. I asked him my set of questions. He told me the problems he is facing in his business and I figured out I can add at least $10k/m on his business.

It's just you they want! Believe in yourself and you can do it!

You have more knowledge than many other social media and internet marketing agencies out there. Just be confident and don't outright pitch clients.

Thanks for your answers. I will just print businss cards, make some simple website and start it like a normal business. There is nothing to lose. If somebody tells me he doesnt need my leads, there will be still many other companies which could be interested. So I will lose nothing, but he will lose the customers and leave them to their competition.
I think they need me more than I need them.
