IF you can keep THIS in mind, you will be OK, now and forever.

Listen, there are some marketers, like politicians, who haven't uttered a single sentence in decades which wasn't conceived...

thought out, filled with "magic words", NLP manipulation techniques, scripted and memorized to be rote, to evoke an automatic response...

And yet, the guy or gal who simply says to ANY business:

"I can get you more business". And CAN.

Will never have to learn a single covert strategy to trick, manipulate, persuade or influence anyone...

BECAUSE

at the end of the day, IF you can do what you say you can for other businesses....

surely,

you can use your own ways on YOUR business, NO?

PS. Can you get MORE business to the person on the phone,
the person you sent an email to,
who visits your web site,
or however they intersect with you?

Start with a real world, "Yes, I can." Then prove it.

Yes, what about a product or service, such as window cleaning?

Well, in the cases where you are offering a hands on type service, price pays a part, sure, but DELIVERING the service is an important key...along with

FOLLOW UP and then tapping into referrals.

Cleaning companies are notorious for low bids, but then deliver poor service, which makes the market so volatile. The really good ones, deliver MORE than they promised in the pitch, and therefore, keep the customer year after year.

Although this Off Line forum has been mostly about selling IM services of late, there are still tons of ways to go offline, and use ONline, and MOBILE (oh, if I were a younger man, mobile apps would be my life)...

So, IF you are involved in offline, and the OP doesn't apply...what do you have in the way of

    REFERRAL?

    Above and beyond delivery?

    Add ons and expnsions?

PS. Sorry about leaving you out of OP.

When I would talk to advertising reps, I would tell them that the most important skill they could develop is learning how to advertise, to generate a profit for their client.

In all my travels, I've never met an advertising rep that knew the first thing about advertising.

I was speaking to a group of ad reps and said, "If you can generate a profit from your ads, and show the client that your ad brings in buyers, you would never have to cold call again. They would be calling you".

They looked at me like I was from Mars.

One guy said, "Our job is to get their name out there. What happens after that is their business, not ours...right?"

    Wrong crowd.

I told my ad rep to include a quarter page ad in her ad magazine that said, "Attention Business Owner; This ad size would only cost you $250, and would be sent to 25,000 consumers. How many new customers would it take, before you made money? If the answer is less than 20, you need to call now."

The ad would have cost here almost nothing. Nope. She didn't think it would work.

She didn't think her own product, would generate one new client for her.

Ad reps are some of the worst, just recently, a local Coffee News franchisee (now struggling) took 8 days to get back to me. Second time this has happened.

I cooled off, went a different route, and she didn't get my business AGAIN.

Also, a guy doing placemats in restaurants, told me the guy with two restaurants, stopped doing them, I asked why? He was clueless.

I went to the restaurants and found out, the owner had a better deal, where HE got paid for the advertising.

      Ad reps...sheesh.
