This is late, so I apologize. I just jumped in asking questions and didn't introduce myself first. My bad, and I am sorry.

You can call me Rob. I just took on the HUGE task of being the social media/marketing (online and offline)/business outreach/office manager/web guy/about 10 other things for a local company with a physical b2b product. (And we work with churches, too.)

The company has been around for 60+ years.

The company does a HUGE amount of its business due to referrals, repeat customers, and people driving by and seeing the sign. (We are located on a VERY busy road in our area. Probably one of the busiest. About 30,000 people see our sign every day.)

The challenge? We have 5 major competitors in our local area.

My job is to beat them.

I'm here to gain some insight (long time lurker). I'm good at what I do, but I can improve, of course.

In return I can give some perspective from "the other side of the table" as someone who is in a bricks-and-mortar biz and sees/hears a lot of the frustrations and concerns of the owner and the staff.

Thank you for being so welcoming.

    Hi Rob,

    Welcome to the forum.

I suspect the large amount of business is due to the reputation of the business, referals and repeat business more so than signage although the driver may already be coming to you and have an idea of where you are....unless of course you are a landmark that other businesses refer to when directing their customers.

Beat the competitors first by having the best referral system and loyalty program for your existing customers.

Would you care to share the niche - it can be broad?

Like my "traditional" business is custom picture framing but the real outcome of my services is "Improving people's homes and lifestyles by creating unique, desirable and affordable wall decor."

I work on my own businesses which supply a variety of products to the Australian market but I am also fortunate to consult to a diverse range of clients with a strong bias towards the surgical and alternative health niches.

    Best regards,

    Ozi

Rep has something to do with it, but we actually do get walk-in business from people who have no idea who we are, to the tune of anywhere from $30 - $25,000+.

One reason for that is our location. It's a pretty sweet deal. Busy road that has lots of local and tourist traffic, and is often the first road people travel when they decide to move into town, so we're the first company of our type they see on the way in.

Might reveal the niche at some point. I want to hang out for a while first, if that's okay.

edited to add: Thank you for the welcome.

highlight your best points to your customers.. not your usp.. everything else you do.. working with churchs etc... build a relationship.. just because you are a big company doesnt means you should pay any less attention to your customers
