FREE BUSINESS LISTING WEBSITE --> Telemarketing / Prospecting For Business Loan Leads?? BEST ONE??

Hello everyone,

I'm wondering if there is a free or very low cost resource online that would provide me with a list of businesses in that particular city (lets say Los Angeles) where I could get the data about that business and possibly even search by particular industry (lets say mechanics in Los Angeles).

So ideally I would like as much info about the business as possible such as:

1. Owner or CEO Name
2. Number of Employee Ranch (1-5, 6-25, Etc.)
3. Phone Number
4. Address (City at the very least)
5. Type of Business

Not that much really. I don't even need sales although it would be nice.

I know of a few different updated software memberships you can buy each year but it's $1,500 per year per city. So as you can see this gets expensive. I don't need as much info that is provided on this companies product so I really don't need it that extensive. All I need really is the name of the business, the type of business, the phone number and the owners or CEO name.

After I get started and rolling on this venture I wouldn't mind buying the membership for $1,500 per year per city as that extra info they provide would likely come in handy.

Or would you just hire your telemarketer to prospect using the YellowPages online or other business listings? I guess it comes down to which is the most detailed free business listing website then. I would need it for the USA and CANADA. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks! J

i'm sure there are local business directory free of charge, but of what quality do you need your data to be? i.e. how well verified, and how up-to-date?

assuming you need high quality data, InfoUSA.com (and the affiliated InfoCanada.ca) is a good source. although nowhere near free (or cheap) for use via their web site, it is practically free when using their API service - at least for a limited use (approx. 200,000 full data records).

for your example - mechanics (including paint, exhaust, glass, tires, etc.) in Los Angeles - it lists around 2,700 leads. why won't you try narrowing it down a bit? so even if you do need to pay for it, you could get a very reasonable price - some 10 cents per lead or so.

Hi bgrubber thanks for the reply. I'm wondering what you mean by the statement above? Please explain. Your saying it's less price than paying the $1,500 per year membership? Thanks J

the API service costs A LOT if you are a professional marketing agency, who can afford it and make good use of it.

however, before one is able to use the API, one must test it; so they allow for a limited free use.

in business terms, the free use quota is hardly of any usefulness (except for testing purposes). fortunately, for ad-hoc purposes, it is way over sufficient. one only needs to know how to utilize it - so the cost implied is of the required software development.

the reason i mentioned this is because i have worked with this API before, with highly satisfactory results, and already developed the said software; this is the forum thread where i discuss it - i'd be happy if you could find it useful, or contribute your point of view.

Thanks bgrubber, I'll head over there now and read it. So your saying ask for a sample of data for test purposes basically. The thing is all I need to do is be able to search by city, type of business, and get their phone number and maybe a contact person. I don't need to know all the other data that is just over kill for my purposes. Do you know of any such alternative to InfoCanada or InfoUSA? Thanks J

For a list of "mechanics (including paint, exhaust, glass, tires, etc.) in Los Angeles"
you can probably pay between 0.04 to 0.07 per lead.
