A Business Card Story...

So you are at the next networking cocktail party....

You are at the party where you are networking with likeminded people and are telling your story about how your business can help? You have the perfect evaluator pitch that gets the person listening and excited about learning more. Next, it's time to trade contact information.

On the front of your business card is all but one piece of contact information and it is missing your cell number. On the back of the biz card you print what I call the "famous quote close."

So it time to let the business card do its magic so you flip over the card and use the famous quote. "You know that you miss 100% of the shots you don't take, right?" As you are closing you add in your hand writing your cell number. Explain that you don't give everybody this number but you want to talk more on how we can work together.

Then hand over your biz card and ask for their biz card.

I don't think the biz card is dead yet...Anyone one else use the business card for offline marketing?... RR

    I use biz cards. My area is very big on in-person networking, and biz cards are a necessary part of that.

    Yes, you can do so without a card (get their card/info and follow up with them, etc.), but if someone asks for your card and you don't have one, you get a very weird look.

    Other areas may be different. I live in a very traditional, old-school area.

    The relationship marketing strategy,

    There are many ways to work with the small business owner that doesn’t cost a lot of money. These are used to get your foot in the door and develop the trust factor. Plus it gives you a feeling to how the biz owner works in his/her business? how important are the employees? and how they pay attention to your marketing details?

    FYI: The marketing details are the ones that measure the profit made by your consultation. To start you are looking for ways to work with the business owner that will develop your relationship into a partnership.

    The first way, ask the business owner;

    How important is it to develop the relationship between you the business owner and your employee? If the business owner shows interest then go into how to develop the relationship. If the business owner is not interested then you move onto the next way to work with the business owner…or maybe it is time to move on to the next contact. You will be able to feel the person’s work ethics and attitude.

    Let’s say he/she has a great relationship with his/her employees…

    This marketing strategy uses the business owner to employee relationship to bring in new community clients into the small business. For my example we are using a small restaurant business. To start use existing business cards, name the offer, add the deal and put the employee’s name to the back of each card in the biz owner’s hand writing.

    Hand out 5 to 10 of these at a time and ask the employee to give the business cards out to deserving prospects. Cost; 5 to 10 business cards per employee, employee reward and the food offer on the invitations that are claimed…

    Handing out the deals…

    When the employee gets great service or has a need to reward someone they pass out one of their business cards. These cards represent a series of offers for visiting the local business and are passed out throughout the community. Please Note: These offers need to be of value to the recipient. $1.00 off a $100.00 purchase is not an offer it’s an insult and the employee will not be using the cards.

    Example: Maybe the grocery clerk did some kind of extra service and needed to be rewarded, the employee gives a biz card. The gas jockey has done a very special job when cleaning your windows; the employee gives a biz card.
