Using another's casestudy for my needs during walk-ins?

Using GordonJ's idea from "Is this as "easy" as it used to be?"

I want to use a few case studies that I found online within my presentations/1-page handouts to store owners. Is that a no-no? Must I cite the company from which the case studies were performed by?

I am doing this because I have 0 results of my own to show at the moment, but I want to reassure potential clients that it works. I want to use one or two during my walk-ins and appointment setting.

Ofcourse in the future, I will create my own case studies.

It is common in selling advertising to bring in samples, for example, you may want to do a 9 x 12 EDDM co-op postcard but it is new to you and your area, so you could show samples of what has been done in other areas.

IF the case studies show either % or $ amounts, I would tell you to exercise caution with them, but, if they are proprietary, you could always ask for permission from where you found them.

There is a general concept of being either in the public domain, or fair use, which may permit your presentation to go unchallenged.

What is your product or service, we might be able to help you flesh out a good sales sheet you can leave behind or use to highlight your business offering?

Managed SMS solution for restaurants. LimeCellular gave me one or 2, but they weren't in the restaurant category.

  • It depends.

    What service(s) are you offering?

You could for example (if you were offering SEO) find a freelance SEO provider and post a job asking for any proof of their work in the form of case studies before you hire them. Then, use that when meeting with business owners because if they hire you, the freelancer who's case study you're using would be the one you hire to do the actual work so there's no funny business.

You would be showing their work around to bring them more work from people they never would have met otherwise.

    Just my 2 cents.

Note: Saw your last reply after I posted. The idea is the same though. Even if you're doing the work yourself (right now), when you scale you could hire a freelancer to supplement your work so getting case studies from them still applies.
