Best Sites to Promote Local Businesses?

I have a program that I use to help local businesses increase their visibility and website traffic. These are the sites I use now:
  • Google My Business
  • Yahoo Local
  • Angie's List
  • Craigslist
  • Yellow Pages
  • Yelp
  • SuperPages.com
  • Local.com
  • City Search
  • Small Business Association (SBA)
  • Better Business Bureau (BBB)
  • Local Chamber of Commerce
What sites or methods do you use to help businesses gain visibility in their area?

    Recommended site: Facebook
Recommended methods: boost posts and Facebook ads

    Here's why:
    1. Huge traffic source (next to Google).
    2. You can laser target local audiences for your business in the Ads Manager.
    3. Can easily be a cheap paid traffic source once you target the right audience and know how to optimize your ads.

However, there is a learning curve with Facebook advertising so...

Here are some recommended resources if you're just getting started (I mentioned these in another post but I'll mention them again):

    1. The Ultimate Guide To Facebook Targeting - You must opt in for the download.
    2. $10/Day Traffic Plan - Facebook
    3. Facebook Social List Building - $7.00 in the DM Lab. You may have to become a member to access it. Contact support if not.

I'm surprised this wasn't in your list. Facebook can help local businesses out immensely.

    Hope it helps!

Thanks for your response. I'm very familiar with Facebook ads, but I find it a difficult element to pass on for the business owners to run themselves.

You missed the BIG one, Youtube. Youtube is the second biggest search engine...second only to Google. Youtube videos are free, easy to create, easy to upload, and will top the search engines for local searches.

For myself (I own a retail store) and my clients, the Youtube videos almost always show up on the first page of a Google search. Usually two videos show.

And Youtube videos can actually sell something, and bring the customer into the store to buy.

By actually testing and comparing, I had listings (in all the major sites), articles, and videos. The videos brought in 80% of the business from every online source.

You just need to make sure the titles (on the videos) and descriptions include the client's city, state, an what they sell.....or the video won't show up in searches.

It also helps to post the videos on the client's websites, and their Google listing page.

Simply selling directory listings, even the best ones, severely limits the exposure for the client. And the big advantage of video is that you can tell a story, that actually generates business.

    Good luck.

Run a company through yext.com and they'll show you a nice list.

Or see the list these people have: The Top 20 Places Your Business Needs to Be Listed Online | VR Marketing Blog. Not a bad list.
