How Do I Make Money With Direct Mail in 2017?

by 4 replies
There is no question that direct mail is making money for tons of business today. My mailbox reflects that on a daily basis with postcards and sales letters.

So how can I get into the game? Is writing sales letters as a copywriter for some company and getting paid for the letter and maybe some royalties the main way? Of course having my own product would be the other option.

I found an old course by Bill Myers on Ebay and figured I would give it a look over to see if it generated any ideas that would work today.

    What niche are you in?

I'm into marketing health supplements and direct mail has been extremely lucrative.

If i know the niche I can give better suggestions on how to approach it.

For my niche I've been using past magazine logs(MAGALOGS) and just spinning the copy to do wonders for me.
Direct mail sales have been six figure a month alone for me.

I can definitely give some tips.

I have found myself becoming more and more and more increasingly fascinated with Direct Response Marketing as a whole of course, but more specifically with copywriting and direct mail.

To me this skill and craft is spread across the board with marketing as a whole regardless of what medium, .. I have found with Direct Mail comes the valuable trait of empathy when it comes ro indeestanding your audience, teheyre bahavorial characteristics, what motivated them, what doesnt etc...

A VERY great recommendation is Dan Kennedy and all of his material...

Writing sales letters is one way, IF you can find a company to hire you and they offer royalties. As for Bill, he has one of the longest running forums on the net, and a bargain at 10 bux a month, In his archives, you'll find ton of stuff on direct mail he did from the 90's to give you some more ideas.

It can be a costly game to play, especially if you don't know what you are doing.
You also, wrongly assume all that mail is making money. Collect mail (Junk) from friends and neighbors for a month and separate out the direct response mail to see who is mailing what. A lot of what you see could be a test too.

A no cost way is to start with an EDDM co-op postcard, one with 3 businesses on it, search here or google, you'll find courses and instruction on the how.

I say no cost (to you) because the businesses split the cost and you use your copywriting skills on their behalf with a trackable offer, so they can see how good your direct response copywriting chops are.

It can be a deep pocket business, the glory days of cheap mail, printing are long past, it is a numbers game and you better damn well know what those are.

OR find a product, create your own postcard and do a small EDDM test to see if you can sell something, might be the cheapest way to get started.
