Track pURL visitors that come from my postcard

by sabrina81 6 replies
Hi,

Im using Infusionsoft, Wordpress and the Simple Purls WP plugin. I have a list of names and adresses.

I want to send out postcards to drive people to my personalized landing page where they can optin for a free report. After opting in, they will receive my free report and e-mail follow up to buy my seo services.

my purl looks like this: firstname-lastname.mywebsite.com

I see 2 tracking problems:

1. How will I know which person entered the purl and visited my website? Google Analytics is telling me all visitors went to the homepage "/" and show direct traffic. It doesn`t show "john-doe.mywebsite.com" as a visited page.

2. Simple Purls has no integration for Infusionsoft. So if "John Doe" is opting in, Infusiosoft will create a new contact. I can`t possibly sync the contacts manually...

Any ideas?

This is extremely easy to track with Google analytics and hashtags as long as you're able to create a unique code on each postcard.

    Example:
    • mywebsite.com#john-doe

    Or...
    • mywebsite.com#flmq1b

...where flmq1b is associated with John Doe.

      thanks for your reply.

But my purl looks like this:

      http://firstname-lastname.mywebsite.com

I really want to keep this format.

I don`t understand how you would track this in Google Analytics. Can you describe your idea or give me link or something?

You have an opt-in form on your personalised page right?

If you have a name field on your opt-in form all you need to do is cross reference your original mailing list against the opt-ins.

The other thing you might like to try is just mailing an offer right to the list you've already got and save the PURL up for when you want to make an offer.

The PURL can work well as a secondary follow-up where you make a personalized offer to someone who has already expressed an interest. Plus it is a lot easier for someone to click a personalized link inside an email rather than type a link.

At least that is what I've found when using PURLs.

    Best regards,

    Ozi

You could also try Purlem's WP plugin. Purlem can integrate with Infusionsoft as well...

I already bought the simple purls plugin for 200$ so I want to make it work.

I think I have a solution for my 2. problem:

I will autopopulate the first and last name in my form with the purl name and hide the field. So when john doe visits john-doe.mywebsite.com his first and last name is in the hidden field and I will just ask for his e-mail adress.

But there is still problem #1:

How will I know which person entered the purl and visited my website? Google Analytics is telling me all visitors went to the homepage "/" and show direct traffic. It doesn`t show "john-doe.mywebsite.com" as a visited page.

      regards Sabrina
