Voicemail pitches to free content online?

Scott Hallman goes after big accounts by sending them a video player in the mail, and then sending out a voicemail "autoresponder" series that teases them and refers them to different parts of the video in the player.

I was thinking of doing a variation of this where instead of sending a video, I setup a bunch of cheap domains and drop the pitch to check each one out if interested ( howtocreateacustomeravatar.info and so on)

Has anyone had success or failure using voicemails to drive prospects to engage with web content? I know it's a switch of mediums which is non-ideal. But it seems like it could be cost-effective if I can get them to engage.
