The world's simplest way to get your first client...

A lot of the people who read this post are going to look at me and say
"That's too simple to work you idiot!", but those that take this and
actually work it, well, they're going to be making some money.

So, even though this seems too simple to try, at least think about it
for a few minutes.

Now let's jump into it...

Believe it or not, but all you need to do is send this simple letter to
30-40 businesses and start building a relationship.

After a week or two, you'll easily have 5-6 businesses ready to purchase
services from you.

Let me explain how this works.

I've constructed a letter for beginners - it's very similar to the one I
used when I first began - that's going to get business owners to
remember your name, so that when you contact them again, they'll take
the time to get to know a bit more about what you're offering.

The letter that follows is step #1.

----------------------

Dear (Business owner's name),

I know you're busy and you value your time, so I'll be brief.

My name is Chris Ramsey, and I've recently opened shop here in City
Name. My business helps companies like yours make more money using the
internet.

I noticed that you have a website, and I was curious to know if you were
happy with the results it's getting you.

Anyway, this isn't a sales pitch – I just wanted to introduce myself to
you in hopes that we could build a working relationship together. If you
are looking for ways to better advertise your business that will bring
in more new clients and customers, I hope you'll keep us in mind.

Talk to you soon,

--------------------

See, isn't that simple?

Just a tiny introductory letter is sometimes all it takes to book a
client - of course that's not the case most of the time, so let's
continue on.

This letter should be in a hand addressed, stamped envelope. None of
this bulk mailing crap.

That's going to exponentially increase the chances of your letter
getting read completely.

Now, next step.

3 days after you send the letter, give the businesses a call. It should
only take an hour or so.

Give them a call just to confirm that they received it. Let them know
that you just wanted to let them know there's a real person behind the
letter if they ever want to get in touch with you.

If they are already looking for a marketer, this is when you'll set up
an appointment... but again, this isn't true most of the time.

The next step is a little more customized.

You'll be sending another letter, but this time each business will need
a little advice. Send them something similar to this...

--------------------

Dear (Business owner's name),

It was great talking with you the other day.

I had a chance to look over your website, domain.com, a little more in
depth, and I have some thoughts I'd like to share.

(Insert a few small pieces of advice on ways to increase conversions)

In addition to this, I've put together a full report on a new way you'll
be able to bring in at least X more clients/customers a week.

If you have a chance next week, I'd love to sit down and talk with you
about for just a couple minutes.

Give me a call at XXX-XXX-XXXX to set something up.

Talk to you soon.

Of course, for the "more clients/customers" bit, you'll need to
customize this to the industry. You don't want to tell a pool salesman
that you can sell 20 more pools a week when 1 more a month would make
him ecstatic.

After this gets sent out, if you don't receive a phone call within 4
days, give them another call to check for receipt.

See? Isn't that easy? You didn't have to leave your house a single time
(except maybe for stamps) and you've already booked a meeting. You're
80% of the way to booking the client.

If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to ask.

Hey just curious but what type of deals have you worked out with this letter?

Is this more of a customized offline plan for people? (i.e. they tell you what they want done just by contacting then you custom quote or do you have a specific plan of action that you semi-tailor to them?)

    Thanks for providing this!

    Cheers,

    Brad

Definitely a customized plan. At first I did some autoresponder work, but very quickly found that I prefer to work on custom jobs... I don't care much for selling packaged services to businesses.

    Chris,

    Thanks for starting this thread.

You said you like to work custom jobs, so your ROI is more important than numbers, right?

How did your first mailing pan out?

      Hello Chris,

I like the letters over time approach. Like planting seeds and letting them grow for a future harvest. Soft sell trickle type campaigns can be pretty effective over the long term.

That's the good idea but the only problem is that If I will keep sending same format of mail to the user then my email id will be spammed and my message will not be able to reach the user inbox and that will go to their spam box. Am I right ?

    Chris,

That is a good letter. Nice and basic too keep from confusing the owners that are not internet inclined. It also keeps from describing the business propositions, which makes sure that if they have had an issue with an seo guy in the past, they are not going to be biased against you.

I also like the way that it sounds just like you are talking to them. It could also be used as a intro for cold calling.

    Thanks for sharing.
