I Own www.OfflineMarketing.com - What Would You Do?

I just took advantage of the opportunity to own OfflineMarketing.com and I'm not sure what to do with it. I just installed Wordpress on it just to have a place holder but have done nothing else.

I'd love to hear some suggestions. What would you do?

Did you just buy it from someone? I would have thought it was claimed a long time ago, but if you just snagged it up and registered it, you just got pretty lucky.

There are endless options on what you could do with that domain.

I purchased it... pretty reasonably priced I'd say for exactly what you've just stated... I'm sure there's a great deal of potential here... I'm just not sure where to start or what direction to go. That's not to say that I'm not capable of implementing ideas, I'm just pretty undecided right now. It can't be anything less than huge and I'm sure it's going to be quite an undertaking... OR, maybe it can be something that's one of those really simple concepts that generates constant passive revenue...

      Just fishing right now.

Wow, that's awesome. I would make sure to taky my time and figure out exactly what you wanted to do as there is a lot of potential with it. My first thought because of where we are in this forum was related to offline marketing type info as in the "offline niche", but that is so limited to the real world version of offline marketing.

Were you thinking the "offline niche" type or more real world offline marketing, not that they are exactly seperate, but just viewed seperately here on the forum?

My first thought was a directory of offline resources categorized by media... TV, Radio, Newspapers, magazines, billboards, etc... then invite owners/leaders of those industries to provide content in exchange for featured placement.

Also thought of just a simple affiliate product... but then I thought 'why should I dedicate prime real estate to someone else's product for a simple one off commission?'

Then, i thought about creating my own product, ebook, or something....

I have so many other projects right now... I'm not sure I can get my head totally wrapped around this just yet, which is why I'm looking outside my own block head for other perspectives.

My first thought was sort of the affiliate route, but more of a giant directory of all the different offline products that are out there. There have been hundreds of wso's alone on the topic. Maybe you could figure a way to get them all listed on the site and get a cut even of the ones that don't have affiliate programs attached yet.

Kind of like there are sites dedicated to just $7 script/Instant Paypal commission products, maybe you could do something similar for offline products if you had the owners submit their offline products.

    Dear Indieretailer,

I would rent it out, on a monthly basis, to a very succesful internet offline consultant.

He/She could rent it for 1 K a month, and you will redirect traffic from your domain to their main page.

    regards, LASSE

I would build an offline business around it and make more that way than you think the domain is worth.

Seriously though, consider your audience. Only IMers know what "offline marketing" means. You need to do something that addresses those people only.

Your typical business is not going to know what it means.

RIN is right, "offline marketing" is what 'normal' businesses call...marketing. lol

If I was you, I'd probably start a review blog for the different offline marketing products out there, and earn money via commisions.

Just a thought...you could try ranking for "offline marketing" in Google...but then you might take me out of the Top 3, haha!

LOL... I was about to disagree with a couple of you who think that most businesses, other than IMers, aren't going to know what "offline marketing" is. I think it's becoming more mainstream terminology now. HOWEVER, Dexx, you've been in the game a lot longer than I have at this point and probably have a pretty good grasp of the demographic.

Dexx, I actually bookmarked your site a few days ago as a resource for ideas. I don't want to step on anyone's toes, but I like what you've done with your place! And I appreciate your input.

I've thought about a forum, and I think ultimately that's probably going to be a must have... I'm just not sure I really have time to moderate it... but that's something I'll have to overcome somehow... it makes too much sense and shouldn't be overlooked.

In regards to renting/leasing the domain... I've tried that with another "great find" domain, but found that companies are reluctant to spend money marketing, optimizing, and developing traffic to a domain that they don't own. I'm thinking there's more potential for revenue if I were to put it all together myself instead of dedicating it to a single entity.

Okay... so, forum is going to be a must (anyone care to moderate?), and... I don't know why it took until just now to think of getting a newsletter list started! That goes on today's "to do" list.

The million dollar opportunity here is being the eBay or Craiglist brokering deals between offline businesses looking for Internet Marketers and vice versa.

You cut take a cut from the deal for being the broker. This is what eBay, Craiglist and Clickbank all do.

Just wait until you see the new offline resource centre that'll be released soon, you thought you loved the info I shared before...this thing like will be a university education in offline consulting...starting at $7! (My apologies to the $1,997 guru launchers out there...I don't want people re-mortgaging their homes)

But honestly I'm really happy to see how many people have turned to helping local businesses, the world economy needs someone other than Yellow Pages reps out there spouting marketing propoganda with no trackable results =S

Dexx, you certainly have a good handle on things... I hate to think I'm going to be riding on your coat tails on this... I'm thinking there's probably going to be some collaboration in our future.

@ Lamberw - I like the "marketplace" idea. That should be as simple as installing some kind of directory script with a pay for listing PayPal type of element...

I'm sure I'll be doing some affiliate marketing / review type stuff here for blog entries and content.

LOL...GhostCash... Well, I'm not sure how important that is, but it was a short negotiation. Just think of a ridiculously low price that you can think of versus what you think a piece of real estate like this must be worth... and that's relatively how much I paid.

I seem to have had that kind of luck lately. I practically stole a motor yacht a few months ago... and before you think anything negative, no, I didn't have to have it pulled up from the bottom of the ocean ... It's in a slip at a marina near downtown San Diego and my family and I have been enjoying it all summer!

You know what, Dexx, it's like being a Locavore.

I think one of the ways out of the mess we're all in is to buy local, shop local, support local business. And anything we can do to help them reach more customers, retain more customers, convert more customers .... spreads goodness everywhere including where you live and work.

Besides, if I want a good sandwich, I can't find that on Amazon or any other Internet site.

Thanks Rahulr, that will probably be developed as well with information extracted from various sources (Dexx... ) and submitted content. I'm not sure if I'll really be able to sell it though if most of the information is going to be freely available on the site. Then again, it might be worth while if it's compiled in an orderly fashion so that one could read all of the information in one place instead of sporadically all over the place....

      good brainstorming... thank you, everyone!

    ZaraK,

Absolutely. Where I am, there is a very large movement to buy local. This can not only help the economy in the State, but is GREAT leverage for a business like mine to get clients.

As for not being able to get a good sandwich on the net, can't argue with that. But you sure can get the fixin's for one helluva one at Dean and Deluca! The Creminelli Wild Boar Salami makes a pretty good sandwich.

If I owned this domain name i would,

    1. Set it up as a blog.
    2. Get some offline type content on it.
    3. Invite well known and respected IM people who have a proven success rate in converting to offline business to guest blog on the site.
    4. Earn money by offering visitors related products that you have reviewed yourself.
    5. Allow guest bloggers to offer their products and you get a cut.

    That's my 2 cents.

Since you have WP, your options are nearly unlimited. Some governments use WP for their websites!

You might want to include a BuddyPress side to the site so that members can network and have a forum for whatever they need. Also, you might have registration-restricted content (free and paid) that allows some measure of protection from spammers (use Akismet plugin) and lookie-lou's, while still getting SE results.

My site has both BuddyPress and S2Member plugins if you'd like to see it in action.

I'll duplicate this post on your website as well.

Thanks, Michael! I'm looking at BuddyPress now. I like the idea of a "members only" area, I think I should get the site established first before I start on a fee based system. The social networking aspect is good and might actually be the best place for the 'members only' part of the site...

Try to make it user friendly website and generate traffic on it by making blogs, articles submission, social bookmarking etc. It will work for you.
Article submission area sounds good perhaps with an article directory script. I have to be careful because as comprehensive as I want this site to be... I also want it to be relatively low maintenance.

@Rus Sells - Thanks for your 2 cents also... good ideas.

I'm definitely going to have to start making some moves on this soon.
