*** Offline Success, Why people Fail*** and a Free Case Study

Warriors,
Heres just a few of my thoughts and concepts in regards to the offline Model.
We don't have near the time to post and reply as we use too here, but on
occassion, i think its important to try to give back...So here you go...

BTW No WSO to FOLLOW or List Buidling Freebies This ones on me..
I apologize in advance, this is a long ass post, and there is a
REAL CASE STUDY AT THE BOTTOM WITH A REAL CLIENT...

First off lets take a look at the model as a whole, many newbies and experienced
IM stars are still struggling and continue to struggle.. the Million Dollar Question,

WHY?

Heres my categorical list...

1. No clear Personal Business Plan
2. Jumping from one technique or tactic to the next, without perfecting one.
3. No Mindset - This alone accounts for 90% of failures in my personal opinion.
4. Zero Phone Skills, folks, in this day and age, you must have phone skills, and more
importantly be able to show this to potential and existing clients. The better your
skill set here the better you can teach it to your client. Somene is going to chime
in here and say, Ya Robert BUT... I am in the IM business. This is where you are
Wrong in more ways than one.You are in the RESULTS BUSINESS for BUSINESS'S
5. Lack of Complete Business Understanding in other words, your not well rounded
in all the different aspects of business.
A- Can you read and understand a Profit and Loss Statement
B- Do you understand Sales, and more importantly how to Close Customers, and convert
them to Long Term Clients.
C- Understand Marketing as a Whole?
D- Do you have a strong understanding of the actual business that your client is in?

A good example would be,What business is Mc'Doanalds in? Hamburgers you say, Nope,
they are in the Real Estate Business, and control more valuable real estate globally
than most of us can comprehend. The Internet in exactly the same. The better
Virtual Real Estate you help a Client Control the more value you bring to the table.

6. Not Understanding What Business your In.
7. The Inability to think outside of the Proverbial box for each client.
8. Lack of Overall Business Skill and being a WELL ROUNDED BUSINESS CONSULTANT
9. Spending to much time getting ready to get ready..Take some Action Now.
10. Failing to focus on RPA daily..RPA = Revenue Producing Activity. This puts money in
your Pocket. Is'nt this what everyone is striving fore.
11. Putting your personal interest's first rather than your Clients.
12. Positioning Yourself, your clients, and business.
13. You know nothing about Arbitrage and Barter.

Warriors, there are a lot more items that should and can go on this list, but i hope each
of you gets the point or has a stong understanding. Now what can you as a newbie, or Star, do
to enhance your business immediately for Massive Profitablitiy

First- Create a Business Plan that defines a Goal or Achievement that is 1 year out. Consulting
is a game, a big game, and you need a plan. Fail to Plan, you Plan to Fail.

Daily activity- Spend 30 mins a day practicing in areas where your weak. Another 30 mins
a day growning your mind, or your education. Limit Warrior Forum activity too no more than
15 mins a day for 30 days. First make the habits then the habits make you. Spend the rest
of your time with RPA or Revenue Producing Activity.

Create a Schedule- Get a Weekly daytimer, and on sunday nights, plan out your next 7 days
of attack. This weekly plan can and Will create Massive results,if you do one thing
and one thing only Take ACTION.

Develop your Mindset - You have to create a 4" thick Rhino skin, and develop the attitude
that no matter what, you can't fail. You will have setbacks, we all have them, but there
is a big difference between setbacks and failures. Through your own personal development
you can and will create a Powerful Mindset. Mindset is a Huge key to your own personal
success. This is why you need a 1 year business plan, and a weekly action plan. This allows
you to somewhat track results.

Practice your PHONE SKILLS - I cannot stress this enough. Warriors, no matter what happens
in todays society, if you want to position yourself as the Rock Star, this is the easiest
way to do it. Everyone is spending the majority of their time with Texting and Email
communication ( these lack one key element,Emotion. ) Without emotion or body lauguage
the interpetation is left up to the one reading it. Example: the word WHY? it can be
interpeted a 100 different ways... as a question like why? why did you do that?
WHY? like how does that work? You get the point correct. One of the fastest ways we are
able to separte ourselves is with phone communiation.

NOW THIS IS REALLY IMPORTANT by using the phone, it also allows us to market to
our clients the way they want to be marketed too. How, by knowing in the first 15-30
seconds what type of personality we are talking too.

So, Learn the Four Personality Types, and i like the color system.

Green- Detail oriented, facts and details. (engineers, architects, programmers)

Yellow- Social people, these are the ones headed to the next party or barbecue, they
like to be seen out and about.

Blue- Blues are easy going and laid back, and the last thing they want to do is rock
the boat in any way or hurt anyones feelings. They are also the color that is the
hardest to market too, as they rarely will tell you exactly how they FEEL.

Red- Reds are dominant, leaders, and they are quick decision makers. They can say yes
fast, and blow you out of the water fast. They typically want to know just a few
things. Whats in it for Me, How do i do it, what does it cost, whats the result?

Red is by far my favorite color to work with. They are tough, abrasive, and result
oriented. If you kick ass with their results, they are going to Refer you out
to many many clients.

See, if you don't have phone skills, and you don't understand how to market to the
clients the way they want to be marketed too, your shooting yourself in the foot.
Try marketing to a Red with tons of facts and Figures. They will blow you out
fast, where as you would have the undivided attention of the Green Immediately.

Learn to use the phone, repetition is the mother of skill. During your daily
learning time that you scheduled in, learn about the personality colors.

This should get you started immediately...now as i promised heres a real
case study from a very recent client...

Warriors our client is a Massage Therapist, Making $500 a month, and
working 2 additional jobs like most massage business's. They don't have
capital to invest in you and your marketing plan, now what do you do...

Heres what we did...and how we made money.

First, we had a 3 hour brainstorming session with our new client, and through
rapport and trust we asked TONS OF PROBING QUESTIONS. We wanted to be able
to identify the areas of weakness, and the areas where we could create
immediate instant results.

1- We acquired a simple Local keyword rich domain, and built a very
nice wordpress site for our client. Total time 2 hours.

2- Went to a company who makes coupon offers to the public very similar
to Groupon. Within this offer, we negotiated for 15% of all the proceeds
generated by the offer. Our client will get 50% of Gross.

On this one, we sold 320 Coupons at $18.00 in one day, for a 70 min
massage. Our client gets a total take of 320 X 9.00 of $2790.00
we already know that only 78-82% of the coupons purchased will actually
be used. So an immediate Net profit of 66 coupons x 9.00 of $604.00

3- We installed a back end funnel for our client to run all these coupons
through so they could earn additional revenue.

We are making a first time customer offer to all new customers coming
from the coupon for a 2nd visit at $35 and they pre pay for the gift
certificate. Customers are buying this big time, as the offer is coming
right behind the killer 70 minute massage they just recieved.

In addition, an offer is made for Gift Certificates as gifts, with
a fantastic pre pay discount.

4- We installed a new checklist for the new customers as they
come through the door. Like, what kind of music do you like...
in my case i HATE easy going massage music, i would much prefer
hip hop or some metal or rap..thats just me. Remember when
we said, market to people the way they want to be marketed too.

5- Had our customer install pay pal, and Create a $7 product
to deliver via her website, as a loss leader, and at the same
time it still produces revenue for her.

6- Installed Mobile Texting list for our client. The way its
pitched to customer. On occasion we have cancellation openings
and when we do, i offer these at a 30% discount but its typically
same day service. She can send out a text at 11am when she knows
she has 2 openings for the day. Study of on Text Marketing here
guys, its the new wave.

7- Created a Killer Gift Certificate and Referral Program.

There were a few other odds and ends..but you guys get the point. Now
how did we make money..here you go.

1- 15% of 320 sales at $18 = $864.00 cash from the Coupon sale
2- We took 25, 1 hour massage gift certifiates in trade,
remember when i said, learn about barter and arbitrage. Total
Face value of $60 x 25 = $1500 and we are selling these at a
30% discount to existing clients when we see them. So total Cash
value $1050.00
3- Since we created massive results, and an immediate surge
of 600% in sales, we have our clients ear.
4- Next month, she will lease 2 websites from us, for local
massage, at $100 each per month.

$200 per month x 12 months- an Additional $2400 in cash

Lastly, due to her success and the type of clientele she
is getting, we offered a %15 Gross Referral fee to her
for any client she referred us too. Guess what, we just
got our first referral Yesterday, and Its a monster.

Total-
$864 in cash
$1050 in Cash

$1914.00 total

$2400.00 contract in montly installments
and a Referral worth about $8k

Total Time into this project 6 hours

I would say we did alright.

QUESTION: How many of you would have passed on this client seeing as they had no money to pay me up front?
You just have to get good at being a well rounded consultant and look at all the viable options.

Hopefully this long post, helps some of you and gives you some
insight into the possiblities of Consulting. Its big business
and a Great lifestyle. I wish each and every one of you
massive continued success. Feel Free to post up and share
your thoughts and opionions.

BTW, Heres a Shout out to DEXX and Congrats to You for
all you have accomplished over the last Year and Half

To your Continued Success

Congratulations on your success. I am just getting
started in the offline niche and I really appreciate
    your advice.

I'm going out now to take some action!
I want the great lifestyle offline consulting can bring.

Thanks for the great post Robert. This is one of the better posts in the offline forum in my personal opinion. There is a whole lot of value to be found throughout the entire thing, both in the tips as well as the case study.

I like your take on the "You are in the RESULTS BUSINESS for BUSINESS'S" which is very true.

      Chad,
thanks for the kind words, we don't make it on too this forum nearly enough any more, but this forum has been a wealth of information for us over the last 2 1/2 years. I just hope we can give back on occassion for what it and other warriors have given us.

Keep up the great work and I appreciate you like my take on what kind of business we are in, most folks just don't get it, even the business owners don't know what business they are in half the time.

      To your continued success,

There are a multitude of companies similar to Groupon with lists who offer daily deals, you will have to do a BIG G search and try to run them down. Hope this helps.

      Brett,
thank you so much for taking the time to reply, i appreciate it. Like you, i hope this helps out some of the newbies as well as seasoned veterans. I can't help but think, so many people would have completely passed on this particular client, seeing they had no up front cash to pay me. I hope this opened up some eyes, and really let people know what can happen out there. 5k for 6 hrs not to bad, and who knows what we will get via Referrals over the next 3 years.

Thanks again... To your personal continued success Brett,

Consulting is indeed about selling RESULTS. Most offline methods I read are about selling PROMISES, which is by the way, very hard to sell to businesses.

    Amen!

What you stated above is the absolute truth.

I was recently a member of another forum and taught several of the members there how to use the phone properly and in just a few short lessons they have all turned their businesses around.

As a business generation tool there simply is noting faster, easier, or more powerful than the phone, but most fail at it because they think it's about just making hundreds of calls a day and letting the numbers work in their favor.

While the numbers do work the burn out rate is close to 95% or better because most can't handle the rejection and tedium.

But with just a few distinctions, and a little practice, people would be absolutely astounded at what can be accomplished by learning a few phone skills.

    Thanks for the great post.

Mark, this would be the exact reason why i have not offered a WSO in over 1 1/2 years on the offline arena. At the end of the day, its a results oriented business, and i love that newbies can get in and get started, i just feel there is so much more to it. Like being comfortable picking up that 800 LB Purple Gorilla called the Telephone.

Graham, thanks for the kind words, and i appreciate you got a lot out of this, that was certainly my intention. As for packageing it up. I don't do WSO's any more. Not enough time, and at the end of the day, 80% of the people or more, will not implement what you feed them. Therefore they get no results. Thats just not a good feeling for me. Thats why i have no signature in the bottom here. Thanks again.

Nick... Thanks for the kind words my friend. I really believe the phone is the number one asset of any business. Example, its the life line of a Pizza Company. If the person on the phone sucks, they miss an opportunity for a repeat client, an Upsell and so on. In person, and on the phone, its a great way to create a legacy. Thanks again Nick, to your continued success my friend.

      Matt,
You hit the nail on the head my friend. I cannot tell you how many offliners would have passed on this client due to funding. Not only was this client an absolute pleasure to deal with, she is referring us out like crazy to some very large company owners. I did'nt even bother to post about the fact we were selling the Gift cards at a 30% discount to some of our other consulting clients as a huge benefit. it went something like this.

Hey matt, its robert nelson, just wanted to give you a quick shout, i wanted to be able to give you something sweet, how about a $60.00 massage for $35 and the Massage therapist is incredible. If you havent got something for your secretary wife or GF this would be great. I want to call you first since i only have 25 how many do you want?

I only had to make a few calls, and they were gone, and my clients who got the big discount think i am a super star for doing them a favor by getting it for them.

Thanks for the kind words Matt, to your continued success my friend.

    Robert,

Your post got me to thinking. The payoff in looking at things as a "well rounded" consultant doesn't always have to be cash driven.

It was the start of spring and my wife wanted to start getting the yard ready to "display." Working in the yard for enjoyment is just not my cup of tea. That week we had one of those professional landscape guys working on a yard across the way.

I went to talk with him. He did good work. After chatting a while, I suggested a few things for his business along with something his son was doing. We got to talking and were able to come up with a nifty deal.

I would create a few promo items for him and he would do my yard for the whole season.

    Total time spent: 4 hours

A season of yard work done - priceless!

    Just something to think about.

you hit the nail on the head...Thats just it, most people are so caught up in the
next WSO, what failed, what didnt work..yada yada yada, when there is so much
business floating around them, if they would work more on perfecting personal Skill sets,
there business would Boom Big Time.

Hey Robert, thanks for the PM recently. Amazing first post. I know I met all the stated criteria to make a successful consultant, so reading how you worked the magic on that client example was good. Many people possibly also would have walked away when they realized that client was only making $500/mth. It definitely takes a 'thinking outside the square' mentality.

Agreed with Warren, the Opening post is brilliant and it goes to show what a little extra brain power / thinking can achieve for such businesses with small time earnings.

Very inspiring for me reading that.
    Thank you.

      Warren,

Thank you, this is exactly why i keep trying to stress to all offline marketers...
become a very well rounded business consultant, the real GOLD lies in getting
results for clients across the board, not just IM. IMHO if you work it right
and provide tons of value and results, your clients will promote the hell out
of you. It takes time, education, and some trial and error, but the investment
      in yourself pays monster dividends.

To your continued success my friend,
      Robert

      Sam,
Thank you for the kind words, and i could not agree more with you. Sometimes
putting a square peg in a square hole, means putting a square peg in a giant
oval hole. At the end of the day, business owners are focused on results and
results only with ROI. Everything else is just NOISE if they are not making
money with results, they are out of business.

      To your continued success sir,
      Robert

    [QUOTE=BrashImpact;2667826]Warriors,

We wanted to be able
to identify the areas of weakness, and the areas where we could create
    immediate instant results."]

Robert, just out of interest, what made you approach a client only making $500/mth?
Is this typically an industry that shows good possibilities?
    and
How did you pitch it to them, so they didn't get scared off thinking it was going to cost them thousands they couldnt afford?
    and
How would you suggest others of us, with no (or very little) testimonials, or market consultancy success provide our prospects with confidence that we can do what we say we can do?

    Thx
    Warren

      Warren,
A few answers, first off, i only take clients by Referral Only. No Referral
no get in, and no get any of my time. That took awhile to get to that
stage. One of the biggest things i see offliners do...

      GO AFTER THEIR OWN POCKETBOOK

when they should be looking out for the client first, and looking to make
the biggest impact of results in the shortest period of time. I don't quote
prices over the phone, however when someone refers me, they refer me
in such a way, that the client knows my time is worth $3k-$5k an hour.

Now, we made about 1k an hour on this project, it was ok, but not a home
run by any stretch. However the back scratch i gave is already coming back
in spades. I have a Happy Massage client, I have a Happy referelee, and they
have both sent more work this way. In fact, i am in the process of closing...

A substantial 6 Figure referral right now from them, with the potential to bring
in Mulitple 6 figures over the next 18 months.

Hope this helps and gives you some ideas.

      Regards,
      Robert

    Hey Robert,

I want to thank you for this post. I have studied many of the post here and have found some really good stuff.

Your post, I must admit, has forced me to really think outside the box and look at the client long term rather then a one hit wonder.

You have given above and beyond with this post and it reminds me of a saying I once heard, "Givers gain!"

    To the warriors...

I have had the pleasure of getting to know Robert personally in the last couple of days and he's been a positive influence in my life from the very start. He simply enjoys helping.

When he makes a post, we should all be digesting every word. Then read it again. The words he continued to drill in my thick head is "think outside the box" and "look long term" at serving the client.

Robert, I got it and I'm running with it.

I'll be back with updates soon and I look forward to the day I can pay it forward to other warriors!

      Rien,
I would reccomend, researching via google on the color personalities, and buying multiple books for study and reference. It's a vastly important topic, and the more ammunition you have the better off you are.

As for telemarketing, John Durham on this Forum is really hitting the Telemarketing hard, and even has a Telemarketing Forum... i think its called The Telemarketing Forum - Index but i am not sure. Use the search feature here and search his name, he has many brilliant post's on this topic.

Now just go kick some butt...
      To your continued success Sir,
      Robert

For a basic overview, check out wikipedia's article on the temperaments
Four Temperaments - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

If you want to read some more on the subject, a good book on temperaments is Personality PlusPersonality Plus . It's not a specific marketing or sales book, but it was a good read and really helps you understand the psychology side of things. Check out some of the Amazon reviews if your interested.

It's theory is there are four core personality types. You can certainly be a blend or have mixed traits, but your overall personality fits into one of the 4 types (Popular Sanguine, Powerful Choleric, Perfect Melancholy, Peaceful Phlegmatic).

A fantastic guide. Congrats on your achievement. I personally never use wordpress for my clients website. I prefer using web designing services from a professional.

If you are a newbie in offline marketing use wordpress till you get your first payment but do not do it for the long term as wordpress doesn't look good and professional.

why you say that wordpress is not recommended for long term use? For what I have observe its plugins are just great in helping you out. How long have you been trying to use wordpress then?

      Nicole,
wordpress has nothing to do with it..and its a very powerful tool in
the offline arena. Not every client has Big Cash to pitch at a website.

Consider the kind of results you can acquire for a client before determining
whether a solution like wordpress is in order.
