Anybody here doing a book for lead gen?

It is my understanding that a 50 page book at 25 copies is $103.

Not bad to differentiate....

Thoughts?

I don't, but a marketer I use to work with does. He hands out books like they're business cards.

It seams to work for him, people eat it up and think he is way more important than he is.

Keep in mind a 50 page book is pretty short and flimsy looking. You want to make it closer to 100 pages to make it look like a book of value.

I'd much rather a leaner book at 50 pages than have to sort through 50 more pages of "fluff" to get to what i'm actually desperate for. ;P

If you're converting using the books like business cards, that'd be very much worth it.

One product I give out in my membership site is a short report, not even 10 pages, and it simply educates business owners on how to recognize the mistakes they're probably already making online.

Something as simple as that, printed nicely, can really do the trick to make you look extremely credible... Of course if you have a book that you've written, I think that'd probably work better.

Yes...I am liking the idea of a book more and more.

Does anyone know of anyone with a bunch of good offline PLR?

    Hi James,

One gentleman has about 9 pages and I want 100.

It sounds like I have to do this the HARD way.

I have to write it myself.

      really Charles?

how a bout a bit of crowdsourcing?

Create 10 chapters, get 10 willing warriors to write a chapter each,
and then let us all have PLR rights to use the book.

We can all have it as our free squeezer giveaway ...

once we have the book, then we can each individually tailor it to our own ends anyhow,
just so long as , say, there is a list of author credits somewhere in the book.

I'm probably talking out of my elbow here, but you could structure a book around several case studies.

So the book would be explaining to business owners how the internet has changed marketing,
and how it can be used to garner targetted leads , etc etc

You then pick the case studies, get an individual to do each case study, and then you write the narrative to the book.

You could keep Author rights, and the co-authors could have PLR rights....

    Is that workable???

A book is a great gift to send to prospective clients.

IT is a tool - the same way a hammer is.

For those who say a 50 page book is to little, well I'd love to see your book and how big it is.

Simply put - something is better than nothing and my GUESS is that a smaller book has a better chance of being read than a 400 page book.

Try it out and see what you think.

I'd be definitely interested in this one as well.

50 pages are not flimsy if you use heavy paper like 300gr.

Breitling (premium watches) use this kind of materials for their brochures and they look like expensive high end brochures.
300gr high gloss dark grey paper with white / light grey font

Just add thick, hard covers and you have book!

I used PLR to do my local lead generation book. I had it out like a business card just as suggested above.

Its only 50 pages... it's a quick read, which is great for handing out. Busy business professionals don't want to carry around a large book... and they won't read it.

It looks pretty cheesy on Amazon... but it's easy to impress the "locals".

      Hey Debra,

Wow, having a book on Amazon is such a simple startegy yet can add so much credibility to your business.

Being a published authour in the eyes of the local community makes you an instant expert in their eyes.

Why didn't i think of this simple strategy earlier? Time for me to put pen to paper, or is it keyboard clicks to screen

Thanks for the inspiration to implement this simple stratgy for increased credibility.

My book is not huge but gets the info across and has made it much easier to get clients. I even had a potential client say to me last year just after my book was published, "I guess I'd better hire you quickly since your prices will go up now that your book is out". I knew no more than the day I'd written it but I was suddenly the expert.
I use it constantly and they are not expensive.

I used to have a little guide that I had made at Kinko's (before I was really into IM) that I handed out to QUALIFIED clients (or you burn money REAL fast)..

I think it cost me $2.25, or something like that, each - and they were 5.5X8.5 (essentially a piece of paper folded in half). I had kinko's do all the work for me and just picked them up.

They were ~35 pages, black and white text inside, stapled binding, and a full color cover with trimmed edges (so they didn't look like folded crap).

They worked REALLY well, back in the day, as handouts to Realtors. They were small enough that they actually got read (you'd be hard pressed to get a small business owner to sit down and read your 100 page book I would think). And they seemed to go over well.

I wonder if i can find that somewhere..... now you've got me thinking! haha.

I have one I wrote on stress reduction tips that I've given away to gain yoga clients and psychotherapy appointments. One thing I found helpful is that certain stores will allow you to leave a bunch with them. I was able to do this at my local Whole Foods (with my contact info on sticker on cover).

I've also sent some to chiropractors as a gift which has led to some referrals for my yoga class. I went to a local business networking group and I found women were happy to take it as it fit in their purses, but men didn't want to carry a booklet with them.

Booklets are a good way to introduce yourself to someone that's a business owner. I gave 10 to a local post office center similar to mailboxes to give out to some special customers and he asked me a lot about marketing when I came back, so they are a good intro tool to mention other services once you make a connection.

      Guys,
50 page book, 500 page book or 5,000 page book... It's comepletely
irrelevant to its size. You have to hammer in a 20 penny nail, will a
metal table spoon work, yes, would a 2 lb roofing hammer be the best
yes. Would you want to use a 10 lb sledge hammer...nnnnooooooo

Charles... don't make this element complicated. A 35-50 page book will
add massive credibility and a lot higher probablity of being digested by
your target audience. Dont stop there, make it available as an MP3 and
      a PodCast.

Make it easy for your target audience to consume your material the way
they want to consume it, not the way sellers would like to deliver it.

Just my 2 cents... If you want me to take a Chapter i will.

I would suggest having a nice looking book PLUS a free DVD, because many people like to watch videos (at least that's what I've heard LOL).

Of course it's more pricey, but picking the right targets and doing this can work wonders.

I've used high quality reports, audio CDs in nice DVD cases, and 200 page books... All to good effect. However, the greatest impact I've gotten has always been with a book! People perceive authors as "special people" and nothing speaks success like a well-made, high quality business book.

As far as people reading the book, I read a report saying that 98 or 99 per cent of books weren't even read, with the exception of novels. But, when you think about it, even if it takes you a while to put something together and you pay $500 for a bunch of them... doesn't the payoff make it worthwhile?

BTW, I would be willing to write a good 200 page book for business owners and make it available on a PLR basis... (I have already written three performing books and two business books, so I can get one out pretty rapidly).

    Warmly,

    Millard

I have a book that i use and it's about 200 pages. In addition, I use 50 page reports, 40 page reports, and others. My printer does a first class job.

He also does my audio CD packages, YOU IN A BOX.

    These ALL work effectively.

However, as I proved this afternoon talking to a director of a community center COLD, that is I just walked off the street, if you are friendly and offer something of value to anyone you are talk to, you'll make progress.... The director wants me to hold a seminar for local business owners. I did not have any of my "Tools" with me other than my charm.

    Hope this helps.

Books absolutely DO work, but as Millard has pointed out, YOU are a bigger part of the equation than the book.

However, that being said, if you know your stuff, and you're good at what you do, having a book to point the client to, or better yet, hand to them, will definitely help you establish your credibility with them.

Just be damn sure you can follow up that extra perceived credibility with results!
Yep... If you can do what you say, it ain't braggin'! Well said... making sure you can deliver is what it's all about.

        Charles,

Yesterday I was at the E-Myth website and looking for information for a client on getting her business ready for sale. I saw that they are offering a free book (paperback book written by a real expert) to be mailed to anyone who's interested in exit planning. When I signed up to get the book, I received a personal email from one of their consultants asking me to confirm my mailing address and also asking to set up a phone conversation to answer my questions.

So far so good. Very smart. But the poor guy misspelled my name in his email, even though the correct spelling was right in front of him. Don't do that!

I told him I would have questions after receiving and reviewing the book.

I definitely felt a pull of obligation to talk to this guy because they are taking on the expense of sending me this book.

I expect there will be more followup later.

So this is another way to use books for lead generation.

You might go sign up there yourself and observe the process.
