I need local leads... which way is best?

I am looking for local leads for my business.

It would be best if I could do it via Facebook but I can't figure out how to search for people by city.

MySpace has a local search setting but the quality of the leads are low.

Would a blog be best?

How should I go about it?

I can't give you much help, other than try asking the same question in the new "off line" part of the Warrior forum...You may get more experienced folks to help you over there:

We could use a little more information... What do you need the local leads for? What kind of business? What are you looking to sell?

If you're looking for contact people at local businesses, just check the websites of your local Chamber of Commerce. They (generally) have most of the prominent local business people as members.

As James F said, look for local meetups, local chamber of commerce etc. bring something like a book or portfolio of your services. Best way IMO, sometimes you can even guest speak. What other better way to get clients is there, I know of possibly one more.

Going to local chambers is a good way to get leads, other very good technique
is to start a local meetup meeting where you will explain them the topics you know, most of the times people who attend to this places are very interested on your topic, but they won't be able to implement it themselves (usually they are very busy with their core business) furthermore you will be able to get good leads and some contracts as well.

If you're looking for local people on Facebook for leads one way you can find people is to look for other groups or fan pages for your local area. A lot of times someone else has already done a lot of the work for you and people have already joined a group or "liked" a page that pretty much identifies them as being from your local targeted area.

Then you can either add them on your own or the best and easiest way would be to contact the group or page owner and see if they could invite their members or fans to your page or group. You may have to work something out with them to do it for you, but some people will just invite or recommmend for you if your page or group is worth it.

create business page on facebook and search for other pages that is similar to yours, say

    beach weddings

then for local people, search for beach weddings in Koh Samui Thailand

people who join or like these pages are most likely interested in yours too

    all the best

      Hi

Yeah linked in I would look at

but does depends on your business.

I just started looking on there and there was a group that had about 2000 members for the niche I was wanted to sell in.

So have a look and see if there is a group and get in there.

      I hope that helps

      Phill

Shoot me an email if you need any more ideas more than happy to help

IMHO the best way to go/learn how to get local leads is with the gentleman who posted above me. His current WSO is the product to have if you are learning/wish to learn and become proficient in the art of obtaining leads. It shows you how to do it properly!

Talk about an encyclopaedic product and it is primarily video which is nice.

    Hth's.

PS. Don't want to embarrass you Peter but credit where credit is due!

Answer these questions and you'll have enough to get started:

    1. Have you identified your target market?
    2. If No you need to do so
    3. If Yes, how would you describe it to someone who knows nothing about your business?
    4. Have you identified your ideal customer or client (if you plan to serve service type businesses)?
    5. If No, you need to do so
    6. If Yes, how would you describe them to someone who is a rain-maker for instance and has offered to go and bring you your ideal clients?
    7. What problems are your ideal customers/clients facing
    8. What results are they seeking?
    9. How do you know this to be true (Don't believe everything you read that's shared as common-knowledge because a lot of it is wrong)?
    10. What would make you and your Offline Consulting services different from anyone else (and price cannot be a factor)?
    11. What will make your ideal leads remember you?

Hold yourself accountable for answering these questions within the next 7 days and I guarantee that you'll have the answer to your questions and a lot more.

I think I can attest to the fact that Bayo is right.

What I would add is that you still need to network.

Some things are going to fall into your lap by accident when you are a good networker.

If you have a local network, you need to get one.

You could always type your keywords in the search engines and go through the first few pages, and email all the site owners offering your services. Takes some time, but it works.

Also, I think you can search by location with the Twitter search funtion. Haven't tried it, but its worth a shot.

Buy leads, it has taken me from almost zero to turning away business that is too far away to drive to or too little return.

I drive about 50,000 miles a year and in the 6 months since going totally offline am on target for £100,000 in my first 12 months. Client deals range from £450 to £2500 a year reoccurring.

There are 2 major hurdles getting the appointment and the face to face, so if you don't have very effective emphatic selling skills , then there is a problem.

My fixed costs are virtually nil, my variable overheads are petrol and expensive business suits. I have free high street office space etc.

If you are despaerate and starting from scratch, at the begining you just need to get in there and take your chances, learn as you go, the key is to maintain credibility be persistent, go to church and pray alot, and keep pushing forward. You can't know your client problems etc unless you have clients to begin with.

Be nice to people and never put all your eggs in one basket.. keep your costs to a minimum.
