Error on Business Cards - What to Do?

I'm steaming right now! lol

I just spent $100 to have my business cards re-designed and printed.

Well, I received them and I see that "competitors" was misspelled as "competitiors"... (an extra "i"... you probably didn't even notice, right?)

This was my error, but I must've read over the proofs 100 times and did not notice this! Obviously, the person who did the design for me and the person who printed them for me didn't notice either.

So... what's your opinion - ditch them and start over? Or should I give them out hoping no one notices?

It's just so unprofessional to have a misspelling on your business card.
But it's not like any of the important details are misspelled - such as my email address, web address, or phone number.

I'm thinking most people may not even notice it but I know I should probably throw them out... what would you do?

Hi Kim, I'd definitely redo them. If a client catches it, he/she'd think "wow, if Kim missed that, what would she miss when she's working for me". just my 2 cents. mike

Definately redo them. Don't hand them out like that. Put it down to a $100 lesson

      Kim,

It's a painful lesson, and most of us have experienced it at one time or another. I once had this happen with a batch of thousands of postcards, where I'd mixed up my phone and fax numbers.

Unfortunately you have to throw them out and get them redone without the typo.

You're lucky you noticed before a client did.

Since it only cost 100$, I assume you had limited quantities.

        I would do both:

        1) Use the redone one with serious prospects and meetings

        2) Use the bad ones sort of as a throw away for unimportant places that give you exposure without bringing in real prospects. For example, there are a couple places here where people can staple their business cards in public places.. or "forget" a card here and there. Not methods meant to generate real leads but just have your card seen.

        Just imho.

          Kim,
go to Vistaprint.com and get a new batch of 250 u can
expedite them if you need them immediately for a whopping
charge of $17 quickest, easiest cheapest solution.

Good luck... FYI business cards are not needed, i have not
used them in over 10 years. I have clients program my phone
          # into their phone. They no program, they no client. Simple
          as that.

          Regards,
          Robert Nelson

Been there... done that... I could have sworn I checked over them 20 times too...

I was nice and let the printer know it was my error, and they gave me a discount to reprint. You could always see if you're printer would be willing to discount the next order for you, but I would encourage you to re-print them.

If someone handed me a business card with a spelling error, I would not be inclined to work with them.

    redo them. without question.

If a prospective client looks at your business card and sees an error, what's to stop you from making a mistake with the work they hire you to do?

Redo. If I and error on a biz card I would be thinking >>> next!

Also consider talking with the printer and mention the fact that yes you looked over the proofs but two of your employees missed it and would you be willing to split the difference! It just seems as another mentioned that Vistaprint would be your best option.

Hand them out and tell potential customers that if they find the error on your card, they get ____(free business analysis or 20% off or something). Then they will definitely be looking at your card! And use it as a conversation starter! You're dealing with business people who have had things like this happen to before. If you spin this right you can work it in your favor.

Wow, i never fail to learn something useful at the WF.

        That's a fantastic idea.

Even post them out with a note attached:

Spot the mistake on the card and receive a free gift consultation.

LOL... thanks everyone for your feedback.

I'll bite it and have them re-printed - don't want to risk losing any potential clients over this.

I'm also going to use Robert and Etak's suggestions for the bad cards - I like that.
