Launching Facebook Promotion for client:UPDATE

One of my clients owns a salon/spa (been in business 20+ years) and Ive gotten him ranked #3 on Google places and now we are working on a Facebook giveaway. I am going through Wildfireapp so it is within the TOS on FB. Basically the idea behind the giveaway is to get new followers on FB and hopefully in turn, new customers in the salon. Hes giving away about $1000 worth of services (massage, facial, hair style, makeover ect) + $100 of the winners choice of products from the store.

Its a HUGE giveaway. All the person has to do to qualify is "Like" the fan page. I really want to promote the crap out of it so he gets the most bang for his buck. I created a personalized URL for the FB page. So Im having the stylists tell their clients to "LIKE" the page via sms since its free and easy. They are also putting a sign up in the store. One idea I have is to talk to a local blogger about getting an ad or blurb on his site about the giveaway. He wants to run it for 2 weeks, starting on Oct 19th. How else would you guys promote something like this? Any and all ideas welcome

Update 11/2/10: So I thought Id give you guys a little update on my giveaway for a client. It went live this past Friday and runs for 2 weeks. Thanks to HealyMedias suggestion the owner really liked the idea to offer it to the winner and a friend, so I added that to the graphics I designed for the promotion. NorthSocial was pretty easy to use although there is a small glitch with the 3rd page of the promotion showing for only 3 seconds in the browser. It sucks because thats where I was offering a $20 discount to people that entered.

Its been like pulling teeth getting people to sign up for it for whatever strange reason. Apparently they have a sign up in the salon about it and Ive told them to have all the stylists talk it up to their friends and clients but only 10 people have signed up (7 are people I know from my personal FB page lol) They have 96 fans on the page and Ive posted on the facebook page once daily about the giveaway. So it must be on their end, I cant make them promote it or make people sign up. It really makes me wonder if Im doing something wrong though. Any suggestions, tips, advice is appreciated.

Promote a promotion on Facebook on Facebook, whoever likes the page ask them to suggest the page via the suggest to friends facility and let it spread across Facebook.

    Healymedia:

Ha! You're right. Im a girl and this is very true. Id definitely enjoy this more if I could have a friend along. Im gonna propose this to him. Hopefully he'll go for it. The only problem I see is that he wont want to give away $2k in services. Mabey he can just cut a few services out to bring the cost factor down. I really want this to go viral in my town, Im racking my brain to figure out all the ways I can promote this lol.

Have people place their name in the post/thread for the contest and ask them to have their friends that join the fanpage "like" their name in the thread. This way, you can easily see who referred the most fans.

You mention many prizes, so give some thought to awarding as many winners as possible and then leveraging those winners for other initiatives.

For example, person "A" wins prize "X"....when you message that person to get their mailing address ask them to leave a review on Yelp or a comment on a YouTube video of theirs within 24 hrs and send you the link and they will also win some shampoo or whatever.

Make sure to do some facebook ppc; keep the ad socialable and have a landing page that points to the like button and explains your offer

When setting up the ad; choose CPM over CPC to save money

Dont forget to send a press release to local media. If this is being done in October maybe tie it in with breast cancer awareness month. Think Pink. Share with a Friend. Feel good. type of concept.

Oh great idea!!! I forgot about "Breast Cancer Month" He does wnat to do it in October. Actually Oct 19th, which is really soon, Im going to try to get it set back a little later so I have time to get everything done.

Also, not sure if anyone knows about NorthSocial.com for Facebook apps? I was going to use Wildfireapp for the sweepstakes but like Northsocial MUCH better. Its cheaper, plus it forces the user to "LIKE" the page before they can enter the contest. Also theres an app called "fan offer" that uses the same principal only it gives the user a coupon or discount code after they "LIKE" the page. Theres a ton of easy to customize apps that would be a really great service to add to your marketing arsenal for local business owners. Great viral potential. Check them out if you havent heard about them.

I assume the name of the businesses page is the businesses name. Why not set up a separate page just for the contest and make it a really great name that women would want to "like" even if they don't know about the salon. Like..."Get Your FREE Massage at ______", or "I love FREE manicures at _____", or anything you can think of that would catch someone's eye and make them go to the page.

That's just to get them there, obviously, you would link that page to the businesses other page. It's much easier to go viral that way than to try and get other people to "like" the page when they see just the business name.

You can promote your page through Facebook ads and also one more technique people use is to create Twitter account and tweet about the contest which is taking place on Facebook. Also one more thing you can do is, ask people to post status messages also if they want to participate. This way they are inviting their friends to the contest too.
    Good luck with the contest!

There is a lot of cool things you can do with Facebook comments in tabs, hiding content from non fans and creating some other viral components. If you want shoot me a pm I will give you some info that has worked well for me and the contests I have ran.

Thanks for all the feedback guys! Jb8: Im actually using a Marketing tool for Facebook called NorthSocial.com. If you guys havent heard of it I highly suggest you check it out for your offline clients. Its pretty amazing all the cool easy to use apps in one place.

Also, I watched one of their tutorial videos about using Powerpoint to create custom fanpages. WOW! I never thought of that for some reason but it has saved me so much time. Im sure a lot of people already knew this and are doing it but it was a lightbulb moment for me lol. I always use GIMP or Photoshop and it takes a lot longer.

Let me suggest that the clients NEVER walk out of any retail establishment without some type of promotional item in their hands.

Take a $100.00 bill with a real face of Benny ... alter something on it so the SS don't come a knock'in...and on the blank backside offer a promotion of when you sign up and hit the "Like" button they get $100.00 cash in hand or their next cut/style is Free (something along that lines) ... pick a winner every week and let everybody know via email and a big poster in the shop that Susan won the contest ... have the stylist hand them the $100.00 bill when done and see if they don't rush home to sign up ...

    Something like this maybe

Also like the "pair" services idea

Thanks, thats a great point about never letting them walk out empty handed! You dont really mean every client gets $100 cash for "LIKE" the page though right? Just the flyer that looks like $100 with the FB fanpage correct? Otherwise he'd go broke lol.

May i suggest using business cards that look like money - put your marketing message on them.

Checkout these two sources (nope, not affiliate links - I have no affiliation with them):

        1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 Dollar Bill Business Cards, Drop Cards, and Sizzle Cards - Home

$5, $10, $20, and $100 Dollar Bill Drop Cards, Money Business Cards

They are real eye catchers, great conversation starters, and have a novel feel about them so people tend to keep them and show them to others.

        Regards,

        John

        ps - $100's works best!

naw .. give them a chance to win $100 bucks along with everybody else for that week. But the idea is to attract them to enter their email name (hint - hint) then direct them to a FB page with the "like" button ... killing 2 bids with one stone ... but not a flyer .. an actual size of the $100 bill.

see the previous post for samples of what is already available to purchase.

Just trying to save you a few bucks at first and see if it works ... but the ones make by the commercial people look really good.
