what's realistic here?

So I've been reading a lot and I've got just a couple of questions about a few things. I'm gonna take some advice I've been given and work on my own SEO techniques over the next few months, but in the mean time I would like to approach offline businesses about optimizing their places and search rankings and outsource this work to others.

My question is, for people who do this already...what is realistic?

Would it be realistic to charge and get $5,000 plus $395 a month from a dentist to rank them on the first page of good and in the top 7 for places for 3 local keywords?

Is this too high? Too low? Would it realistic to get this same number from a roofer, plumber, ect?

Also, is it realistic to grow at a rate of say 1 client a week?

My next question is, say you delivered on the promise to the dentist above. How many other dentist's in the area can you work for before it's a conflict of interest? If you have 7 dentist's paying you monthly to keep them in the 7 box of places and you deliver...that means that you shouldn't take on an 8th correct (at least not for the same keywords) ?

thanks for everyone's help...I've learned a lot from you guys. I'm not looking to get rich or to even make this my career, all I want to try and do is make enough to pay my parent's bills because they are both unemployed and my graduate school tuition for the next few years.

5k seems pretty high for someone who hasn't aquired their first client yet, what's the rush? I'd recommend (especially in the medical/dental market) to offer your services PRO BONO but stipulate that if you follow though with exactly what you say, they should refer you to 5 or 10 of their collegues AND you should be able to use them as a reference. Referrals & references go a long way and this is how they will compensate you.

Then you can feature that dentistry clinic on your website as a case study. This will build your credibility instantly.

BTW... What's your fixation with dentists? There's lots of different markets out there to capitalize on. Make sure that you're not limiting yourself to one niche. There's LOTS of money to be made out there, but people have been burned by "seo" services and most of them want to be sure that they get what they pay for.
