Result Vs. Promotion, Two models, Which First, which better?

Hi guys,
I've been thinking about this question for a while.

Like "Rent a site" model tell you, build the website and get rank, reserve Google Place listing first.

For that model, we get the results and then promote it. And this works. We could charge someone for leasing this site.

Another model. Go networking and build relationship first. You go without websites. But find clients first. If they don't have a website, build one for them. and then SEO, SOCIAL MEDIA etc.

In this Model, we do promotion before we get result. We start working after we get paid.

Personally, I like the second one. However, I still want to figure out which one is better?

Tell me your thoughts please!

Producing results first is like having a referral. You've built authority and credibility that you can demonstrate.

I think you could take a blended approach by producing results for your own business first and then leverage that if you so choose to use the second model.

However, I like to produce results first or at least something for a potential client first. But hey, that's me.

My two cents? Do both (maybe).

If you have plenty of coin just go straight to the site rental model.

If you are working on a tighter budget try and pay for lease YOUR sites with your profit from working with a client on their site/efforts (consulting/sites/whatever it is you bill for).

This will take longer to get to the 'isn't this fun?' stage, but will provide you with well made, leased sites that easily pay you 2x or 3x what you'd bill a client for (pre-results) in most cases.

Be generous with the clients-- they are putting faith in you to help them without proof it'll happen for them (and often have less money than you might think).

The rental sites are a business transaction based on cost per qualified lead.
