New Client - Am I on Track with This Keyword Research?

I have a new client - Home Theater Installer.

He wants SEO so I'm trying to determine the best 2 KWs for him.

I've done some research below.

I think we should target "Atlanta Home Theater" and "Home Theater Installation Atlanta" due to the fact that their competition level is low with just over 6k in Google ... and they get a nice amount of search volume.

Am I thinking right here? I usually outsource my SEO, but I'm going to do this one myself.

I've seen so many variations on how to do proper KW research for local businesses... so I just wanted to ask here in the Offline section to see how you guys do it.

Thanks!!

Kim

    Hi Kim,

I would go with the top two keywords: Atlanta Home Theater and Home Theater Installation Atlanta

You may want to check out Georgia Home Theater as well since most of the people searching for this term probably live within the Atlanta area anyway.

Congratulations on getting the client and I'm sure you'll do a great job with their SEO!

If you really want to know the volume, you could run an adwords campaign for a few days. It would give you a nice report on what is triggering the ads.

These tools only give us an idea. As long as you perform solid seo, you'll raise their traffic for many variations of these keywords

I completely agree. Run an ad campaign that sends traffic to a 1 page landing page you own. On that page, have a phone number you own that auto-forwards to your client.

Now, not only do you know how much traffic the site gets, but how well it converts by tracking calls. This may help you determine the price you're charging your client.

    Kim,

    Go for longtail keyword phrases:

    install home theater Atlanta
    install Bose home theater Atlanta
    install media home theater system
    get home theater installed Atlanta
    Atlanta media theater installation
    Atlanta home theater installation
    Atlanta Bose home theater installation
    Bose home theater installation Atlanta
    Atlanta home theater system installation

If your client specializes in the installation of a certain brand of home theater system like Bose, you may want to add that to your keyword phrase as I've outlined above. In addition, find out from your client which system he installs most often and insert that name into your keyword phrase.

Well keywords are great but how are you going to use them as this will determine what you use.

Just saying keywords is like saying website; means nothing unless you know the context.

Also depending on what strategy you are using you should be looking for a range of keyword phrases to target. In Home theater installation you have all the different brands, configurations etc than can be targeted.

I would also be asking him if he has some deals with his suppliers and find out what their specials are. Doing any SEO without finding out specifics from your customer is just presumptuous.

    For example let me explain.

I have a customer who sells Tyres (Australian Spelling) so we target radial tyres, ford tyres etc. We do not add these to their meta tags but use them in posts and then use global SEO to target surrounding areas.

So there are 3 different SEO tactics we use and different keyword phrases and strategies for each one.

The results are listed below for Australian Search Engines and the company is Tyrehouse.

    General listing page one.

    Ford Tyres

    Geo Targeted Listing Page one

    Ford Tyres Dural

Different results from different keywords and strategies.

I would go with your installation keywords for two reasons.
    1. you want hiring keywords. You don't want to go after info searchers. You want to attract people who want to pay others to do the work.
    2. The installation keywords have the shorter keywords in them. So you'll double the bang for your buck.

    "Atlanta Home Theater Installation"

Yes... great ideas. I bought one of the installation domains that was available. I'm going to put up a landing page with a kall8 number and offer this package to him for rent or purchase - in addition to the SEO of his site.

Trying to decide how much to charge for this.

Pricing is always a tough one, I agree. I would just ask for whatever you are comfortable with making, based on your efforts. A flat-monthly fee is usually the best option for this, though I suppose you could try and get some commission deal out of the work he gets from YOUR work. Charge at least several hundred dollars a month(a flat $350-$500?), as I'd imagine you would not be comfortable with less. I know I personally would not, considering his profit margins are probably pretty high from the get-go. Just a thought....

You really need to think longterm with SEO and lead generation. If you charge this guy $500 a month, that will be $6,000 a year. With solid search rankings for BUYING keywords, do you think he'll make more or less than $6,000 over the course of a year?...from your efforts?
