People doing local marketing are getting it wrong!

When doing local marketing it is not so much about their name and where they live but what are their products and services.

To many people are asking the wrong questions and therefore getting the wrong answers and then acting on them.

Your client wants sales not positioning or lots of traffic. So start targeting their products and services and not their name or profession.

Ross does not get a lot of traffic but is getting a lot of sales because the traffic is targeted to what he sells not who he is.

For example Ross owns a performance car shop in Sydney Australia.

Very few people will look up performance parts in Sydney but they will look up the various parts they supply.

Example: Ross Performance Parts

Fiat F600 balancer

Toyota Damper

It is all about the products and services they provide that generate the sales.

I would like to say about my experience with Trevor and Quentin from Web Marketing for Profit.

Since coming in contact with the team I have had a fast ride to an elevated standing within cyberspace.

Within 3 months and our business web site is mostly on the top line or 1 below top on google, I have no doubt that their methods are very precise and there is not much pain with the whole thing (financially).

Currently I am experiencing the highest cash sales I have ever, in 30 years of business. So look out what else may take place when things really kick in.

Regards and thanks for your good work

This is the result you want and it does not come from a few keywords about what they do but targeting products and services they provide.

It also works for geo targeting

So if you're targeting plumbers, instead of "plumbers chicago" you should optimize for "unplug toilet chicago"? Or "tooth fillings chicago" instead of dentists chicago?

But yea, that will work for hard goods.

Quentin has a point (and so does healingaqua).

There are variables, as there are with most things, that need to be accounted for.

The thing is the web allows you to optimize for both of these situations (and many more).

The web allows a business to give its prospects and customers a plethora of information about the company but more importantly it allows businesses to show how they are the best solution and best value for the customer.

Businesses used to be confined to the Yellow Pages or a newspaper space ad to get their message across. Now, they can use text, audio, and video to form a powerful coherent message.

As offline consultants we need to harness more of this power.

It's too bad we can't get a Ford Falcon or any of the Holden Commodore V8s here in the states.

Services work exactly the same way.

A lawyer provides a wide range of different services.

They may do conveyancing, divorce, business registrations, trademarks etc.

Targeting their different services will position them on the search engines.

By using blogging and writing posts on their different services you also generate ongoing income.

We bundle posting like 5 posts a month, 10 posts a month etc. This is where you get nice ongoing income and you can charge 30 to 40 dollars per post and discount a little for buying in bundles.

You are not just writing the post but adding it to social bookmarking, article sites etc and thats why you get the premium amount.

Get 30 clients doing 10 posts a month and you can generate a very healthy 9 to 10 thousand a month.

We use SEOpressor to target the keyword for each post very strongly.

      Hope this helps.

It really just comes doen to what the customer wants and is looking for. Figure that out and provide the right information so they can find it when they look. It doesn't matter what you think or what the client thinks, it's all about what the customer is thinking when searching.

Figure out the customers need and fill it.

Really? Who is optimizing for a businesses name? You're right its not about where they live, its about where their business is located.

Yes and thats been pretty well established by keyword research. And they won't be thinking "unplug toilet chicago" they will think "plumber chicago" i.e. profession/city.

Of course there will be a few professions where someone offers multiple services such as a remodeling contractor that does roofing, siding, windows, etc. Again keyword research tells the story. You might be able to find some untapped micro niches such as: instead of "auto repair" you might go after "valve job" but you need to think about search volume.

I have a site that has several well written pages about the niche the site is in. Very comp. niche too.

I did a site: search on Google and noticed that the thing Google cared most about indexing was not most of my pages but instead, my shopping cart with product descriptions and pricing.

    Interesting huh.
