Why Bother Telemarketing?

Someone asked me the other day to explain the reason why I use
telemarketing. Here is the email I sent them.

My answer is really simple: "I want to make money now!"

There are many other ways to attract and close offline marketing
business, but for me, telemarketing takes the cake. I have still
not found a faster way to find clients. And believe me, I have
tried just about everything. Here are some of those methods...

1. Direct Mail. You and I both know what everyone does with mail
they don't want to read or think is "junk". That's right, a quick
glance then straight into the trash can. Do I really want to spend
hundreds of dollars for mail that will never get opened, or flashy
postcards that serve as coaster they spill coffee all over?

2. Email. Really, have you seen my inbox lately? People are
bombarded with millions of spam messages every day. And even
though your email may not be "spam", it will likely end up
like the rest of them: unread or caught in a folder that
never gets opened.

3. Online Marketing. It makes sense right? Since we are
offering online services to these offline business, that
we use a little of that magic to help us get clients. The
problem is, the clients that we want are not online actively
looking for us. They are too busy running their business
worrying about making payroll, and trying to manage their
current clients/customers to spend time looking for us...

With any method you plan to use to market to offline
business, you need to ask yourself two questions:

Who is in control of the sales process?
and
Who else are you competing with?

Let's take a look at the first challenge, that of control.
When you use the above methods to attract clients, you
exchange control of the sales process for "passive"
marketing. The prospect decides when to respond, when
to show interest, and when to do business. And we have
to sit back and wait for them to come to us.

You also face the challenge of competing for their attention.
When you send mail, you are competing against other mail,
what they are doing while collecting and reading the mail,
and against them actually opening or reading it.

With email, again, you are competing against dozens of other
daily messages that get read. And that is if you actually
are lucky to mail to a current address or don't get stuck
in a spam folder.

Then their is online marketing. Again, you are hoping them
come online, search for the service you offer, and someone
pick you from other marketers offering the same things...

Sorry guys, but my children are hungry today!

Telemarketing allows me, the marketer, to be in charge. I
can guarantee that my message reaches EVERY SINGLE
person I want it to, receive their undivided attention
immediately after hello, and can immediately ask for their
business. Do they always buy? No, in fact most of them
don't. But I don't need everyone to be interested. If I
only get one person out of 100 to write a check, that
is all I need.

Now I am not saying that the three methods above do not work.
On the contrary, I have used all of them and found business.
But when you compare the time and investment each of them
take to find a client, versus picking up the phone and
dialing seven digits, is not even a fair fight.

So thats why I bother with Telemarketing, and why you should too!

    Hi Jacer

A great telemarketer and an awesome script have made our lives a ton better just this week alone.

4 new clients who will also be paying monthly fees from Telemarketing alone.

    Gotta be happy with that.

Telemarketing done the "right" way - ROCKS.

    regards

Very well written Jacer. I started telemarketing as a business consultant a couple of months ago and do it full-time now as a means of generating new clients. I don't think I'll ever actually enjoy cold-calling but I can't argue with the results. One side-effect I hadn't expected was that I actually really enjoy helping the businesses by offering my knowledge and serving them. They are really appreciative and amazed at what is possible when it is explained to them. And in return they give me the fuel I need to pump into what I really want to do, my online businesses.

What you said in 3) about online marketing is so true - these businesses and local tradesmen would never find me online because they simply aren't looking and don't know or understand the resources that can benefit their business. In fact they would never find me even if they were online because I don't have a website offering these services and they never ask (I am planning on putting one up soon anyway). They are only interested in what I can do for them which is excellent because in most cases it means getting started straight away.

P.S. Looking forward to the call on Monday.

Well done Jacer. I have found that email and postcards will get you only so far. You have to get on the phone. As someone who doesn't like the phone...I found that once I started making sales, I love it.
