I have an account for each client. I personally have a few in my own account but they are my businesses.

One account per client has worked best for me.

In the beginning, I thought using a single account would give me an overall dashboard to manage everything. Although that was easy to setup, I began to have more problems with claiming account ownership.

I discovered a connection with managing multiple business through a single account caused Google to require postcard verification more often vs. phone verification. Phone verification is obviously much preferred. After going to individual accounts the number of post verifications have been significantly reduced.

that´s very good info, thanks everyone.

For you is easier to get new clients by claiming their unclaimed google places and them sell them your seo service or just offering rank the places to those who have already a google place?

You should never have multiple businesses on the same acount. When you connect your places profile (login) to a google adwords campaign, Google will show the adress that is closest to the searcher.

Google places asumes that all business in a places acounts are from the same company. It does not care if you search for a carpenter, a hairdresser or a bakery. The business with the address closest to the searcher will show together with the AdWords add from the company you was searching for.

However, if you have a chain of businesses like Starbucks it should be OK. Google will try to find the closest Starbucks from where the search is done. This is of course if the chain is paying for the add. If only one local starbucks store are paying for the campaign, you should make a seperate places account for this store to connect the ads to.
