Google Places Simplified

I have gotten some courses on Google Places and looking through them and other free resources is confusing.

I thought I would post up a simple, to the point explanation on how to use Google Places for a small business owner.

#1 - Make sure all your tags (Business Name, Address, Phone Number) are the same on every directory website such as Yelp, Yellowpages, Citysearch, etc.

#2 - Get backlinks to the website. Include the business name, address, and phone number in press releases, videos, and articles that link to your client's website.

#3 - Add Relevance pictures and videos that SELL the business and include your keywords in the file name.

#4 - Get REAL reviews from customers through building an email list and asking them to leave reviews for you ethically.

That's about it. This stuff is simple. Don't let anyone complicate a simple business listing.

Hint: Spy on your client's competition and see what sites give them reviews and if they are using pictures and videos, etc.

there's a lot of ways to get testimonials; give something to each customer explaining that you need testmonials on the google places page and give them a link

This can be done offline and online.

Especially for new businesses, you need to get good testimonials for ranking. If you have 80 already, that's different.

I use facebook and my email lists to direct customers to leave reviews on google places and other directories.

    Hey Ryan

    Good overview.

Would only add one thing - do your clients a favour - if they haven't got a website get one made for them pronto so that you can take advantage of the changes that occurred just over a month ago.

    And thats about it.

    regards

Things such as local crowdsourcing have been used in SEO/Google Places, to achieve results. Although what you suggest is the most ethical way to do it.

Yes absolutely, they should have a website; most that I deal with already do however.

      Hi Ryan

We actually look for clients without a website in a lot of cases as it's another way to get in the door.

Nothing like popping up a website in under an hour to impress.

That way you open their eyes up too.

    Bronke,

My Product Google Places TAKE OVER has been reupdated and now includes the most current google places ranking metrics. Link is in sig, no trying to sell the product by trying to help people who need help with Google Places..

You're welcome John. It's basic stuff. I know there is more; but those are the foundations to having a good ranking google places page.

      Ryan,

Adding videos can be a mistake, if you don't put enough on, or you put garbage on their, as from what I understand, Google can see your Places profile as incomplete, versus someone who never decided to use video.

        Hi Steve

        Yeah that might be right.

What we do to overcome that possibility is put up th 5 that Google allows and make sure that they are real and relevant.

That seems to do the trick.

        Regards

I am not sure about #4 too. I believe in real reviews. But research shows that most new and old business make up "fake" lovely sounding reviews before they get real ones. I don't like it very much even if the product they offer is great. I believe business is all about trust! And when someone starts lying from the beginning... it's just no good.
