Recent Google Local changes...A Good Thing?

Google has implemented changes for local searches, but I'm not certain it is very effective. I think Google would be better off in actually generating their own local directories.

I think this will still provide listings of national companies, without local presence. I would rather still use a directory service whereby I can filter and narrow down my search results, rather than just by selecting from a map full of pins.

Anyhow, I'm interested in understanding how the changes have affected existing localized affiliate marketing programs?

    I think the new changes are great.
    I offer local marketing to small business.
    I am not worried at all about national companies having listings.
    I think that's great.
    People are looking for a local service, and they see my listings, and national ones.
    I am local, they are not.

    Plain and simple. With proper optimization it's not an issue.
    I would like to see Google continue to make changes in my favor.
