Beginner Looking For Help

Ok, I am fairly new to the internet marketing for businesses thing, I have done IM for myself and a few freelance jobs here and there but I really want to get into this offline thing while the getting is good. But I have been having a problem getting started, and I have been sitting around for about a month in the "getting ready" stage and kinda don't know how to go about starting. I have teamed up with an outsourcer to handle some of the work, I have case studys, cold calling techniques, a few phone scripts etc. and I just really feel like I am running around doing a bunch of busy work and not really "doing" anything.

I tried cold calling some businesses and utterly failed. I either got a polite "no", a secratary whos sole purpose for living is to get rid of cold callers, and the business owner who thinks they doesn't need to do any marketing because they think they get nothing but refferal and word of mouth clients.

How exactly did you guys get over these problems?

Easy...PUBLIC SPEAKING by giving away a free speech at your Chamber of Commerce.

Where can you (in 2 hours of time) captivate over 100-150 business owners at one time (who can all right you a check) and YOU NEVER have to convince anybody you are the real deal and (by default) are marketing your firm to everyone there.

There is a powerful dynamic where over 100-150 local business people are seeing YOU SPEAK. Even when I speak...I try to work in (if possible) that my agreement to my clients is I only work with one company per industry and won't go to your competition.

Talk about LEVERAGE....baby...you got it with public speaking !

    Success to you,

      # 1: Take specific action every day. If you're going to do calls do a certain number every day without fail.

You'll get better at it and you'll develop some important discipline.

      # 2: Try some other strategies.

      You might try:

      - Going to business networking meetings and any groups and events where there's a high percentage of business owners.

      - Talking to the business owners you already know.

      - Talking to the business owners your friends and family know.

      - Asking everyone you talk to who they know (referrals from other business owners are the easiest prospects to turn into paying clients).

      - Joint ventures with other businesses who can send you highly qualified clients.

      - Email.

      - Snail mail. Members at offlinebiz.com get over 20% call back from one letter we provide so it can be effective.

      - Simply walking into businesses and talking to the owner.

Ultimately the value of your business will be based on the relationships you build with business owners.

And if you want to get new business you're going to have to invest a large portion of time in getting in touch with business owners in some way (preferably multiple ways).

Once you understand that the success of your business hinges on how well you talk to business owners you can start to invest some serious time in getting good at that.

      Kindest regards,
      Andrew Cavanagh

Thats definitely a new angle that I have never tried before, I could simply give a presentation about how marketing online can help boost business and brand awareness. I am going to look into doing that. Thanks.

Rather than trying to sell them, pre-sell the situation and especially focus on the WIIFT (what's in it for them)

Do keyword and market research on their market and their competition. Most offline businesses have NO IDEA about the power of search engine rankings, backlinks or any of the stuff we're so familiar with.

Gather this data and send or bring it to them. Show them how many searches their keyword is getting, how much the top spot in Google is worth and what it could do for their business growth.

Scarcity - You can always go a step further and pre-build a website for them. Load it up with a bit of content and get some backlinks to it and then let them know you have ONE available and either they can take it or their competition can take it.

Look up all the details on their competition and have it listed in your presentation.

After you say "I'm going to offer this highly ranked, very targeted website and traffic package to ONE (insert type of business here) only. You can take it or one of your competitiors will take it"......

...and then DON'T SAY ANYTHING!!! No matter how long they stew or hem and haw...first one to speak loses.

its great but do not fall into the trap of trying to selling them something at the end of your presentation. give them real info. something they can take home and use right away in their business. all you need is to build credibility. don't worry about "teaching" them your "secret". your persentation should be educational. do not make it look like a 2 hour sales pitch. as for clients.. if you were providing good info, they will gladly pay you to do all that stuff for them... one of my clients came up and said. "hey that was great, but i dont have time for all that.. how much?"(with his check and pen in hand)

        goodluck

    Hi Sadeq,

Perseverance is an important skill. You have to keep knocking on many doors. Why not try looking into the Yellow Pages? Choose an industry an start taking down their URLs, emails, tel no: & actual contact no.

Next, go to their websites to see what kind of sickness the sites have. Surprisingly, many of them are not mobile readfy/formatted, have no optin-form, no link to FB or Youtube or Twitter. If they do, they don't have an eye catching Facebook Fanpage or someone to be their Youtube CHANNEL MANAGER.

The list of services go on & on. You can sell to them a package or just concentrate onn just 1 of the above mentioned. Did I mention website? Yes, some of their websites are so ugly, its about time they get a Make-over. In fact advise them to have 2 websites = 1 normal & 1 mobile website.

    Hope this helps.

I got started by contacting a few people I knew who owned their own companies and did my SEO work for them for free. They were so happy with my service that they told their friends who owned other businesses and from there it began to spread. A referral from someone they know will open a lot of door for you.

Public speaking as Chris says is an excellent way of marketing yourself without actually having to sell.

But don't give up on day to day activities, your day to day activities are what will sustain you and keep your funnel full of people to see.

Set yourself daily targets and stick to them. For instance, everyday find 50 new prospects with the aim of actually speaking to 20 of them, contact them with a view to getting an appointment. Let's say you get one appointment out of your 20 calls, that's 5 new people to see every week. And now let's say you get 1 sale.

That's just the classic 20 calls, 5 appointments, 1 sale scenario that I have used too illustrate how it could work.

Every industry has different ratios, you need to find yours. You may have to make 50 calls in a day to get 1 appointment, or you may only have to make 10. I don't know yours and neither will you until you carry out the same daily routine.

You will eventually work out how many no's you have to hit before you get to a yes.

It goes without saying that as your sales skills improve so you will your ratios.

      Good luck
