Mobile Sites for Offline Small Businesses

Hey Guys

I have just finished creating a service for my offline clients where I create them a Wordpress Mobile Mini-site for their business. This involves:

Install Wordpress

Install Mobile Compatible theme

Create About Us page
Create Contact Us page
Create Google Places listing
Create Find Us page
Create mobile opt-in form

Create Upcoming Events page
Monetize with Google AdSense for Mobile
Setup Google Analytics

I have heaps of clients interested, but have no idea what to charge. Has anyone used a service similar to this before? What pricing do you consider too high?

This is just for the setup - monthly seo is separate

Would love to hear your opinions on this.

Thank you

Jamie

Hi Jamie - You could easily charge $250-500 (or more) for the set up. Frankly I wouldn't do it for less than $500.

I include mobile as part of my website development.
If you are used to seeing one site online, then you go to it through your phone, and see a different one. It may cause confusion.
Personally, I would just close out the website and access it when I got back to my PC to ensure I am at the right site.
Also, I wouldn't put adsense on the website. Think about how big the screen is that people will be viewing the website on. I have the new TMobile MyTouch 4. My screen is about 3" by 1.5". That's inches. Why would you take away from a mobile site that you just created, for chump change?

Google has a special adwords system for mobile - it's NOT standard and actually I don't think the standard adwords as "we" know it appears on mobile phones.

The ones there are optimized for small size - not 3 ads typically, just 1.

As for if its a business site - depends what the purpose is whether they WANT adwords on it or not.

However, if the OP is talking about having the person advertise on google mobile, then that makes sense.

Regarding AdSense, I am talking about 300 x 50 Mobile leaderboard.

Personally I think AdSense sucks and I strongly recommend alternatives - especially for mobile phones.

I also recommend that businesses never use AdSense on their websites, however - the customer is always right (even when they are wrong). It can be very difficult to convince an offline small business unfamiliar with the internet that there are ways for them to be making money from anything other than AdSense.

Certainly not something I think belongs there, but I have had too many clients to ignore what I know is a frequent request

I understand that, however most business owners want websites created with decent graphics. iPhones and other smart phones can view these without issue, but the other 80% of mobile phones require more basic setups on order to be suited to display on their screen and reduce the download cost and speed.

I install a small logo on the site if the business wishes to prevent any confusion about them being on the wrong site, but the maximum size I use is about 300x50.

If you have not had any issues with this - great! I would love you to PM me a sample so I can see how it displays on a basic mobile handset

Thank you all for the feedback

I do have an ongoing monthly seo + sms campaign for people to use that is easier to price since I have already had a great deal of experience with the time and cost to provide seo services, and the sms campaigns are mainly external cost rather than time

Do you provide SMS Broadcasting from the sites you are selling? If not, you should look into the system I have in my signature. It includes a mobile site, mobile app, and free unlimited SMS broadcasting.

I am with Amber. I wouldn't charge less than $500 for the service. These are businesses and they will make even more money once they have a mobile site going. That said, I would set a price at about $750 for doing what you mentioned in your post, then offer a second plan at so and so a month for upkeep or a set price for updates, for each update period.
