Prospect Meeting Recap

So I had 2 meetings today with people I contacted last week that were interested in having someone take over their internet marketing work. Now I didn't walk out with a deal (their expectations were WAYY too high). They both wanted to be ranked #1 for a very competitive broad term, and wanted it to be done quick (3-6 months). After I told them that it would take longer than that before they even see a ROI, and I would need to be paid more ($3000+ per month) for the results they wanted. I even gave them some options they could go after instead of those keywords, and other packages that were more cost effective. They began to question my ability to do the work because 1. I am young. 2. Most my work I do is under NDA, and they want detailed client info which I couldn't give, and 3. they began shopping around and began to bring up the "guaranteed #1 no money charged till you are #1" people charging peanuts for results. I could see where it was heading and ended up walking out of both meetings because I could tell they were not serious about it (from my assumptions).

I am sure this happened to many of you before, do you feel that I did the right thing by walking out of the meetings or should I have stayed to try and have them see the light?

You did the right thing. You dodged a bullet.

For further meetings, you need to position yourself better. Don't let them question you or your ability. You need to enter the meeting with them knowing you're the expert.

You did fine...you don't want them as clients anyway. Tell them to take one of the "peanuts" guys offers, and ask if they'd be kind enough to let you see the results in 2 mos or 3 mos or whatever...

As for you being young, ask them point blank "who exactly do you think it is that does the majority of internet marketing? People in their 70's?" (and certainly no offense to anyone in their 70's on here who does IM...)

Don't take crap from people whether prospects or clients..in the end, and im telling you from 7 yrs in this particular business, you will always make out better.
