What is your coupon strategy for your own business?

Do you distribute special offer coupons for your own services? It's something I want to do for mine, so I'm just looking for some inspiration I guess.

I've noticed a lot of warriors talking about various coupon strategies they put together for their clients, and I'm only assuming some of you use coupons for your own businesses too.

What special offers do you hand out (10% off? 50% off?), and how do you go about distributing them? Do you JV with related but non-competing businesses? How many coupons do you manage to get out there, and do you make good sales from such a campaign?

I'm also wondering if any of you have used any kind of online coupon system and/or how you deal with tracking. I want to do a special offer on my services but I don't sell packages anymore, it's all done via quoting, so I'm just wondering how I can get around that. Maybe I should temporarily form some packages again - the whole idea is for me to get repeating customers anyway.

Why not give something away when they buy something else? Free 60 sec video to be distributed on tube sites with the purchase of (insert service here). Or a Free Custom Facebook page with the purchase of social marketing? Im usually more inclined to use coupons with freebies as opposed to % off coupons.

I havent done this yet, but its definitely my plan

I like your thinking- multi-channel promotion, giving away something to get something in return.

Maybe we could help you out.

I give away $25 gift cards for my prospects to dine at dozens of fine restaurants. It only costs me for printing because restaurant owners will discount that amount in return for getting them the traffic.

I tried this last year and will be doing a lot more this year.

By using QR Codes you can place adds in print media, on invoices etc.

We put this QR Code in the paper last November and got nothing however we did it again in December and got 3 new customers.

We tracked the code and in November got no scans but in December got 70.

It will be interesting to see what we get in January.

We are changing it around a bit and created a landing page with the coupon offer for better tracking.

There are a lot of ways to use coupons off and online. Go with your preference and test how receptive your prospects and customers are. Ideally don't give away anything that will cost you much in time or $, instead do something to add value like bundling services. I'm planning to partner with a sign company to the QR self promotions Quentin shared above and in another post. Another idea is to tie the offer with building up testimonials or FB fans, etc. Ideally what gets traffic in your area and will benefit you most. I stayed at a timeshare in Branson that did this with all their guests, giving you a flyer with a free night stay in exchange for rating them on a specific site. Good luck.

    Coupons?

Like "here's a coupon for an extra programmer with your $50,000 consulting contract"?

B2B sales outside of the very smallest of small market business isn't remotely similar to consumer sales - and coupons are a B2C selling strategy.
