advertising online for an offline business?

Hello everyone

I am in the process of putting together my first product and am just about finished. I have spent the bulk of the last couple of months soaking up as much info as possible and was feeling pretty good about getting things going.

I was having lunch with a buddy of mine who owns his own plumbling business. I was giving him a vague description of what I was trying to do online and he asked if there was anything we could do for his business. I realize that it is an entirely different concept since he can only deal with local customers but it really bugged me that I had no concrete answer or plan for him. I'm curious if anyone has any advice or experience with any projects like this.

Thanks in advance, all of you have been very helpful and inspiring in my brief IM journey.

As for the business itself all you could do is give him a web presence with reviews and contact information. If he know something that he believes people would pay for he could put together an ebook and try to sell it. But first see if there’s a market for it.

Since it's a local plumbing business, one important thing you can do is have your friend create a free business profile with both Google and Yahoo's local listings.

A local business is easier to promote with longtail keywords, eg 'yourtown' plumbing supplies instead of just plumbing supplies. I cant stand my day job as a tiler but I've still got my little site to google top 3 for search 'Reading tiler'.

There are tons of things you can do to help you buddy create an online presence for his buisness. One of the first things you should do is soak up as much from this forum as you can. You will literally get lost in the mounds of information here. More importantly, you will learn tons and be able to give your buddy a plethora of options.

This is one of the best resources for learning how to help offline business like your buddy. Believe me, it's help me a ton.

More likely to promote local businesses and the long tail keywords, such as 'your town' plumbing supplies, not just plumbing supplies. I can not stand my daily work as a bricklayer, but I still have my little site, the top 3 Google search to read bricklayer '.
