Google Places Dilemma

Hi All,

I've purchased many Google Maps/Places WSO's and none have really helped me get my listing in the 7 pack.

It's very frustrating, especially when the other listings are not even half as optimised as my listings, have 0 reviews and some aren't even relevant to the search term that triggers the 7 pack!

Any suggestions?

    Hello Abul
I have checked the sources of both your sites and I saw that you haven't got a metadata source code with the necessary keywords on either of your two sites. The metadata source code is very important for SEO, because that's how the web-crawlers find your websites.

    I hope this helps.

Best Wishes and Good Luck to you!

Metadata is good to have it but it is not give lot of weight to SEO as used to be. Again, it is better than nothing. For 7 pack, I think it needs good backlinks, few good reviews here and there, then age of domain if it is competitive market like insurance. This is my 2cents..

      Hi Abul

Since Google changed the rules about 8 weeks ago some of the GP courses that you have will only give you half the picture now.

The other part is to make sure that you have plenty of quality backlinks going to the actual business website, include the citation on the site, geo target the site and add a kml file.

Once these are done the stuff you have in most of the GP courses should then trigger.

      Regards

          Hi Rus

We put the location.kml and the geo-sitemap.xml onto the server in the public_html and then run the geo-sitemap.xml through webmaster tools.

          Regards

            Hi guys,

First off, Love you both! Hope you find the Holidays blessed.

Are you naming the kml file, "location" or are you naming it after the major keyword phrase. I'm thinking that''s what I'll be doing.

            Russ

Do you guys have any tips on generating a kml file? I'm just now reading about them and am not too certain what type of code you need to use one, etc? Is it just HTML? Do I need a special editor?

    I didn't provide a link! LOL

The website is number 11 [top of page 2 of the search results]. I've added the kml and geo sitemap and have seen no difference. I've signed up to about 10 directories for citations and am also using videos to get citations.

However, the listing is only about 5 weeks old, so maybe that's the case?

No, it doesn't matter if the listing is only 5 weeks old.
I have created/claimed listings for businesses and had listings within 3 weeks.
That is usually the longest you have to wait.
Sometimes it takes that long for postcard verification and/or Google to spider/crawl everything you do to optimize the listing.

The whole game has changed. Big Time.....

You need both citations and reviews as well as strong meta tags and on page optimization as well as offpage back linking and back link building.

Just optimizing the places page will not work in competitive enviormants with lots of local comptetion.

With the new algorythem in place you need a well optimized web site and strong SEO and Backlinking to get to the top. No 7 pack as the places listing are now placed organically with in the organic listings, either all together, or all spread out depending on how google is feeling that day, what browser you use, where you are, and what the search terms and key words you are using.

Its a whole new game with lots of new rules.....Rules that can and will change with out any notice from google.....

Absolutely, reviews are one huge part of ranking well, in addition to your pages natural organic SEO. For most GP listings and local search results, that only means creating 100-200 strong, high PR backlinks and making sure they are indexed. And realistically, if you are not already doing this for your main site or putting it into the proposal your giving to your client you're really selling yourself short.

There are a number of shortcuts in using authority sites and gaining from their ranking, and we've used them sucessfully for a number of short term GP listings that targetted CPA offers. But as with any shortcut, there are significant disadvantages, and I always recommend to all my clients to take the time to build up your own main sites SEO.

Because, even for our own internal campaigns, we realise that sure the use of thirdparty authority sites work now. But long term, you can bet that Google is going to start clamping down on this.
