Hey Warriors,

I am looking to get into local business marketing and would like to use web-site leasing as a business model. I am targeting pizza places in my area and I got my site to number 2 and 4 in google for keywords such as "pizza my city" and "best pizza my city". I have an email capture on the page and the site gets roughly 2-4hits per day but no subscribers to the optin form yet.

The site has three premium listings and some text listings, I was thinking of charging $100 per month for the premium listings and $25 per month for the text listings. Do you think these are good rates? also what do you think is the best way of selling the listings? I was thinking of creating a camtasia vid showing where the site ranks on google and explaining the listings then sending out postcards to all the pizza places with a URL to watch the vid? any thoughts? anyone have any proven converting postcard copy?

Thanks for the help, look forward to your responses
-Chris

I don't really know what would be a good price for these listings, I'm afraid, but I was interested in this thread from the title.

I have an offline site design business and I do now offer leasing, but I was thinking of just offering it to businesses as I meet them. I wasn't sure about targeting a niche, getting a site ranked and then offering it as a lease. Unfortunately I don't have the time to make a site like that. I would be interested in your success with it, to know if I should look at doing this down the road.

The best of luck to you.

  • I think that making a video is an excellent idea, and one that could provide good social proof for a business owner who isn't warmed up to you yet. Postcards are a great idea since they don't even have to open an letter before they see your ad, so you can catch their eye quicker. Just make sure to keep it entertaining, yet still professional enough to not get tossed out as junk mail. Another option besides postcards might be to advertise your services in a local or weekly newspaper.

The prices sound fair, but really, your main focus has to be on getting that traffic right now. Once you're well established in your specific marketplace, the experiences you've gained from dealing with your customers will help you determine your rates. And if you don't have any customers, there's no one to charge! =D So that should really be your first priority right now. You might even offer a special for first timers to test out your service to get them to join in. Don't be afraid to put the money off at first if the end result is a lifelong customer!

Get the rankings so you can show the amount of visitors each month. That will give you the proof you need to approach the businesses and ask for the money!

It also depends what do you offer to your customers. Have a look at this site:

Pizza Taxi Berlin München Hamburg Frankfurt Hannover Leipzig Köln

It is in German but you will get the general idea. The offer the identical online order form to pizza places, you can search by area and it gives you all pizza places that signed up with the site. You offer them online order system and for sure they will have great interest in your offer. Plus you are charging them monthly higher fees, so everyone is happy.
