I will be opening a service under the warrior for hire section in the next couple of days. Were putting the final touches on a few things.

The cost will be $97 per branded QR Code. I will need an image and I will embed the image onto an "editable" QR Code. Editable in the sense that you can change the purpose of the code at your convenience. Example, today you use it to go to a cpa offer, tomorrow you want it to display a coupon...

Just like anything else on the internet your QR Codes have to be hosted. The generators are around to provide you a teaser, and soft sell on the value of the service. With our codes, we add the appropriate text, or url redirect, and host this information on our servers. At any time your information on the code can be edited.... This is unique for our services....

We are within the 30 day window being able to create portals were our clients can manage their codes.

I'm currently offering review copies at $67.

You will receive a branded QR Code, in PDF format, directed to the url, or displaying the information of your choice.

Thanks

There already are quite a few online sources that do the same thing now. How would your service be different? Google "qr code generator"

      Simple...

I would take your logo or existing images and embed it into a QR Code. While the generators produce a simple 2d bar code w/o any images.

My thought process is to be able to provide a fully functional QR Code customized, that properly represents your brand.

Are you using MS Tags for this?

It's microsoft's version of QR Codes. They let you embed the tag in an image, but of course you have to design the image yourself, so I guess that would be where you come in?

QR Codes are maturer (introduced in late 90's), better supported, and of course being pushed by the big "G".

Tags are relatively new and Microsoft's attempt at competing with Google.

So to make a long story short if I move forward with this I will be producing custom QR Codes only.

              Cool, I didn't know that.

The reason I asked is because I am a graphic designer for POP (product packaging) that goes into Lowe's Home Improvement, as well as other huge retailers...

and they are now starting to require MS Tags on their product packaging...

and of course, me working for the manufacturer of the product (truck tool boxes) then I get to design it.... yay...

It seems like Microsoft might have thrown their weight around to get Lowe's to use MS Tags exclusively - which kinda sucks for Lowe's because you have to have the special tag reader from Microsoft in order to read them... but good for Microsoft that their tag will be everywhere first before anyone else.

I would keep an eye out soon for these to start appearing in stores EVERYWHERE and I mean EVERYWHERE.

Think about it, if Lowes is already on board and rolling this out in the next year, then don't you think Walmart and home depot will be too?

Also, if the huge retailers are all using MS Tags, but only a few people have heard of the QR Codes, then I bet MS Tags will be the big thing here in the U.S.

BTW, you should really check out what MS Tags can do, they are so much better than QR Codes! They can be scanned from farther away, you can change what the Tag does at anytime from inside MS Tags, without having to change the actual tag itself, and the list goes on and on.

FINALLY... what do you guys think is a catchier name?
              QR Codes or MS Tags?

I would be willing to bet that the world will eventually call them all "Tags" period.

              ...open to your thoughts...

Just look on this forum and search QR codes, and you will see a heavy increase in awareness in just a few weeks. I believe codes could be the next big think and real soon. Why wait until then to get in on the band wagon, if you can be a market leader.

Let me tell you.... QR Codes are not an everyday thing here in the states, but what I will tell you is that now is the perfect time to introduce small businesses to them...

I have one of my guys targeting "tech savvy" SMB and simply introducing them to the concept... We are receiving an overwhelming response.

i thought QR codes were a digitized graphical representation of a URL. this is just based on me having generated them by using the javascript library at http://www.tag.cx/qr-codes/tag-cx-qrcode.js and calling the generateQRCODE() function with a URL. other than that my knowledge of them is fairly limited.

but if that's how these QR codes work, how does a customized QR code maintain the same URL? or do you somehow submit a graphic along with a URL to some QR code repository, instead of have the graphic generated in response to a URL submission?

QR Codes can be created to display a variety of things.
      • text messages
      • urls
      • phone numbers
      • contact information
      • maps...
Once a QR Code is created it is assigned a task. Once the end user scans the code the code completes its task. I think your getting the word "custom" confused.

You ever scene how photographers take a photo of a couple behind a green screen, and it instantly shows the couple in Paris, or some other place? Well the QR Code is the backdrop, and the couple represents the logo....

There are alot of services available for cheap and even free online... however, your market is "offline".

In the "offline" world you can sell a package of 1000 backlinks for $1000 if you want to.

Just because people are savvy online of the various resources... well, put it this way; classically here's why a plumber gets paid 70 bucks per hour "because they know how and you dont".

I think that says what Im trying to say.

Genius Idea: QR codes have been all the rage this year for big brands, and now ordinary consumers and small businesses can get in on the fun, too. JumpScan lets users create customized QR codes that combine all your contact information, including social media profiles, for on-the-go sharing.

Think of it as a QR-powered iteration of Flavors.me or About.me especially intended for mobile phones.

It’s also a lot like a next-gen version of Contxts and similar services, but it uses your phone’s camera instead of SMS for a smoother experience with fewer actions between meeting and contacting a person.

As a user, when you sign up for a JumpScan account, you’ll get to create a mobile landing page by entering your contact information. You can add your e-mail address, phone number, Facebook profile, Twitter and Flickr feeds and more.

Once you generate your own code, anyone with a smartphone can snap a picture of the image to be automatically redirected to your own JumpScan page.

Quentin, that's the great part about this service. My real estate clients are killing each other trying to get access to these custom codes. So I deliver there codes and forward them to their website. So their clients are scanning their codesand then complaining that they have a hard time interacting with the website. So then my office phone rings with cheap ol' realtor asking me to upgrade their sites.

In most cases if I have a client on the hook these codes are making the close for me. They talk themselves into it. These custom codes are in demand in Maryland because there new here. It reminds me of being in high school and the new jordans arrive at the store. I'm telling you qr codes is where the offline world needs to be paying attention too.

Rules: I'm not aware of any so long as the code can be read. I take the code and increase the default error from 30% to 50% then layer the graphics and modify the colors. Testing is key. I have all the big name readers downloaded on the major smart phones. Then scan away.

Yeah - I would have thought the same thing Definitely gives you an instant additional service (or back end service)... and obviously they see it too.

As for the rules... did you mean Quentin about the rules of using the trademarked logo from Remax? If that's the case it wouldn't matter because the real estate reps pay for that licence.

(That was my first thought for a sec, then I remembered that they do have the right to display it).

I read yesterday (because of this and Quentin's other thread), from another site, that it's typically okay to put a logo or image in the center of the graphic, as most of the coding is on the outer parts.

Haven't tested it myself yet - but was planning on it.

People need to be focused on making money NOW.
It's marketing 101 - You don't sell them what YOU think they need.
You sell them what they ALREADY want.

There are many examples of "the next big thing" that never got off the ground.

Well, the pricing is a flat fee for the design, hosting, and creation of the code. Now if they need additional codes, then they'll pay an extra couple bucks for them. Each code will be customized but can be redirected as needed based on the clients needs.

Another goldmine is restaurants.... Offering to recreate their menus with QR Codes next to each dish. If the customer wants to see the dish or additional info, they scan the code...

OK making more sense. Unsure of 'hosting' the QRcode though, could you expand on that please?

Also if you have a price list could you PM me? I am thinking I might like to see costs broken down from B&W, 1-4 colour and then Logo'd. From one design to same design with different action codes.

Also what is the delivered formats and sizes?

Really intriguing prospect here. As anyone can go online and with generators produce a code, I believe that making available coloured and branded codes separates us making a value added proposition.

It's marketing 101 - You don't sell them what YOU think they need.
You sell them what they ALREADY want.

There are many examples of "the next big thing" that never got off the ground.

FOCUS on what people WANT NOW!
If you look on Google Trends I think you will see it is what they want but they need to have a little bit of education.

I take in a QR Code and My mobile phone and it is a 5 min sell then pick up their site to mobilize or upgrade.

Well car sales and real estate can benefit as you would create a page for each listing to provide more information especially if there is no sales people present then just link to that page with your QR Code. Here is a great video.

      Thanks

          Hi Soldiers Credit

Very interesting approach to taking the QR codes to the market.

Look forward to seeing what the roll out brings.

I know how to get a QR Code. What I don't get is how you make it editable-eg. restaurant-every time you scan it there is a different coupon. And where do you host it? How much are hosting costs?

Most QR Codes are fire and forget. Meaning you create them to serve one specific purpose and that's all they will ever do for their existence. Some high level custom panels allow you to create qr codes and redirect them as needed. No different from redirecting a page on your website.

Hosting costs vary based off the number of scans the code receives. But, to be honest I would just shop around because their are some very affordable generators/analytic setups that will allow you to generate and track up to 5000 codes for like 50 bucks

Thanks for this information. I am really interested in knowing about qr codes and how they can be used. So it would be good for, as you said, car sales and real estate. Interesting. Very interesting.

I thought about using QR codes on T-shirts for promotions...could work for special event marketing or free give a-ways to spread a promotion. It's new right now so you would pique interest just by printing the code on a t-shirt surrounded by "Hey, Smart Phone! Take my picture and see what happens or ..... to see if you won our daily prize....or to get your free slice of pizza or...

Could market cpa offers like the IQ quiz....Hey Smart Phone! How smart are you? Take my picture now to get your IQ <========click!
(of course, not practical with the cost of the tee shirt and low pay-out but the idea is the novelty of the code on the tee shirt and different ways to get people to capture it)

Like anything I feel it would be an investment. Some promotional ideas that I have revolve around models and CPA offers.... T-shirts with editable QR Codes, models wearing them at packed events.... Instructing people to scan for high paying one page submits...

Your $97 USD QR code is that in high resolution ? like 3000x3000 ? Secondly how do you "change" it that one day it points to a website and next day to a coupon ? As far as I know QR codes are static and once you generate them you cant change the action anymore apart from replace it with a new one. Am I a behind ?
